Pertubuhan Kesihatan Sedunia (WHO) telah mengisytiharkan bahawa wabak Novel Koronavirus (COVID-19) pada 30 Januari 2020. Virus ini sangat berbahaya dan perlu ditangani penularannya ke serata dunia. Maka, petugas barisan hadapan perlu mengenakan pakaian perlindungan diri(PPE) bagi mengelakkan virus merebak ketika merawat pesakit. PPE bertujuan untuk memastikan keselamatan dan mencegah petugas kesihatan daripada terkena jangkitan COVID-19 namun kekurangan bekalan PPE begitu meruncing ketika ini apabila permintaan terhadap penggunaan PPE menjadi semakin tinggi. Orientasi kekurangan bekalan membuatkan sukarelawan mula memikirkan inisiatif untuk memberikan sumbangan. Ini bagi memenuhi keperluan PPE yang semakin berkurangan dalam penyimpanan stok Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM). Sumbangan menjurus ke arah kepakaran penghasilan peralatan dan pakaian yang mempraktikkan pemikiran inovasi. Maka, pihak universiti dan Pertubuhan Bukan Kerajaan (NGO) mula menyumbangkan kepakaran untuk menghasilkan PPE dan peralatan lain yang menekankan kepada rekaan ergonomik. Inovasi dalam rekaan ergonomik ditekankan apabila melihat keperluan peralatan dan PPE yang selamat, mudah dan selesa dipakai dalam masa yang lama. Selain itu, ia bertujuan untuk menjimatkan masa dan kos ketika penghasilan bagi mengatasi masalah kekurangan PPE. Kertas konsep ini melihat isu semasa berkaitan PPE, sumbangan kepakaran Universiti Awam dan NGO dalam penghasilan PPE kepada KKM. Ia juga melihat kepada jenis rekaan ergonomik dan inovasi PPE mengikut spesifikasi yang ditetapkan Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia bagi menangani COVID-19. |
