Kerangka Kepercayaan Masyarakat Melayu oleh Mohd Taib Osman (1989) menyatakan, kepercayaan masyarakat Melayu dipengaruhi oleh tiga teras iaitu agama, budaya dan budaya popular. Kajian ini bertujuan menilai representasi kepercayaan Melayu dalam filem seram tempatan. Objektif kajian melihat bagaimana teras kepercayaan direpresentasikan dalam filem seram dalam membina kepercayaan Melayu semasa. Sebanyak 42 buah filem bergenre seram dikenal pasti dan telah dipecahkan kepada tiga era utama iaitu era 1 (1957-1967), era 2 (1981-1991) dan era 3 (2001-2011). Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kajian analisis tekstual Alan McKee (2003) terhadap filem menerusi pendekatan naratif dan sinematik filem. Hasil mendapati, budaya luar dikenal pasti sebagai teras keempat kepada kerangka ini. Implikasi kajian menyimpulkan bahawa budaya luar juga memberi kesan kepada kepercayaan semasa masyarakat Melayu.
