Abstract : Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris
Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti pengaruh status sosioekonomi ibu bapa terhadap pencapaian akademik pelajar sekolah menengah luar bandar daerah Papar, Sabah. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan kaedah kajian tinjauan deskriptif. Instrumen soal selidik digunakan untuk mendapatkan maklumat yang diperlukan. Seramai 366 pelajar tingkatan 4 sekolah menengah luar bandar daerah Papar dipilih sebagai responden dengan menggunakan teknik pensampelan rawak berstrata dan pensampelan rawak mudah. Kajian ini melibatkan lima elemen pengaruh status sosioekonomi ibu bapa sebagai pemboleh ubah tak bersandar dan hanya melibatkan satu pemboleh ubah bersandar iaitu pencapaian akademik pelajar. Analisis deskriptif digunakan untuk menjelaskan latar belakang demografi sampel manakala analisis infrerensi regresi berganda digunakan untuk menunjukkan kekuatan pengaruh status sosioekonomi ibu bapa terhadap pencapaian akademik pelajar sekolah menengah luar bandar di daerah Papar. Data yang diperolehi dianalisis menggunakan Program Perisian Statistical Pakage for Social Science versi 23. Hasil analisis data deskriptif menunjukkan tahap pencapaian akademik pelajar sekolah menengah Tingkatan 4 luar bandar daerah Papar adalah pada tahap yang sederhana. Dapatan analisis regresi berganda pula menunjukkan hanya terdapat dua daripada lima elemen pengaruh status sosioekonomi ibu bapa yang signifikan terhadap pencapaian akademik pelajar iaitu pengaruh faktor pendapatan ibu bapa dan jarak ke sekolah. Faktor pendidikan ibu bapa, pekerjaan ibu bapa serta persekitaran rumah tidak menunjukkan pengaruh yang signifikan. Kesimpulan kajian ini menunjukkan pendapatan ibu bapa dan jarak ke sekolah mempengaruhi pencapaian akademik pelajar luar bandar di daerah Papar. Sumbangan dapatan kajian ini diharapkan dapat membantu pihak berkepentingan mengambil tindakan sewajarnya bagi membantu pencapaian akademik pelajar di luar bandar khasnya di daerah Papar. Kajian yang lebih komprehensi dengan melibatkan faktor selain sosioekonomi dicadangkan untuk memperkembangkan lagi kajian pada masa depan.
