Interactive Whiteboard (IWB): a review of literatures on its affordances and benefits

Over hundreds of years of modern education system has been developing and implemented in the schools at European countries and slowly around the world. Not only the education system has changed, but also more and more tools and gadgets had been invented and developed for the sake of better education. In most developing countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Brunei, Interactive whiteboard (IWB) becomes a strange tool for most new and even experienced teachers. The purpose of this study is to review back the related literature reviews of the effectiveness of the use of IWB for teaching and learning which currently have mixed findings on its contributions as a tool in the classrooms. Kewujudan masalah disiplin dalam kalangan remaja terutamanya pelajar sekolah menengah yang sentiasa meningkat kini telah menjadi trend bagi budaya persekolahan. Persoalan mula timbul iaitu dari siapakah remaja mempelajari nilai moral dan kehidupan? Remaja tahu apa yang betul dan apa yang bermoral akan tetapi mereka tidak bertindak sewajarnya kerana ia lebih sukar untuk memenuhi keperluan mereka dengan cara tersebut. Oleh itu, remaja terutamanya pelajar yang bermasalah disiplin menghadapi kesukaran untuk memikirkan yang terbaik untuk diri mereka berdasarkan kemoralan. Berdasarkan kepada faktafakta ini, objektif utama kajian yang berbentuk kuantitatif telah ditetapkan iaitu untuk mengkaji darjah pertimbangan moral dalam kalangan pelajar bermasalah disiplin. Perspektif feminisme dalam karya-karya tari terpilih ciptaan ni Putu Ari Handayani

Penyelidikan ini bertajuk Perspektif Feminisme dalam Karya Tari Terpilih Ciptaan Ni Putu Ari Handayani yang dikaji menggunakan kaedah kualitatif dengan pendekatan kajian kes. Kaedah analisis kualitatif sebagi proses inkuiri untuk memahami masalah sosial berdasarkan isu-isu perempuan. Manakala kajian kes deskripsi dan penerangan yang melibatkan koreografi yang merefrsentasikan kekuatan perempuan. Kajian ini juga menggunakan teori feminis eksistensialisme oleh Simone De Beauvoir (2019) dan teori simbol Susanne K. Langer (2006). Kajian ini membincangkan masalah gender wanita Sasak dalam penciptaan karya tari Ni Putu Ari Handayani. Sebagai koreografer wanita di Lombok, Nusa Tenggara Barat, Ni Putu melihat fenomena sosial dalam masyarakat khususnya yang berkaitan dengan wanita. Gaya pembelajaran murid dan hubungannya dengan pengusaan hafazan dan akademik di sekolah-sekolah tahfiz

Murid yang terpilih mengikuti tahfiz aliran perdana di sekolah-sekolah Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia (KPM) merupakan murid-murid yang dianggap mampu dan layak untuk mengikuti kedua-dua aliran iaitu akademik dan hafazan dengan baik dan seimbang. Justeru, pelbagai gaya dan strategi yang digunakan oleh murid-murid ini bagi menguasai pembelajaran. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti gaya pembelajaran murid-murid sekolah tahfiz aliran perdana di bawah Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia, dan menganalisis hubungan gaya pembelajaran murid tersebut dengan penguasaan akademik dan hafazan murid berdasarkan model visual, aditori, reading & writing dan kinestetik (VARK) dan Ibn Khaldun. Bullying prevention and intervention among school counsellors in Masafi Fujairah United Arab Emirates

This study aimed to explore bullying prevention and intervention among school counselors in Masafi-Fujairah schools, UAE. A descriptive design using qualitative case studies was used on several Masafi-Fujairah schools. The study participants were seven counselors in all four schools within the selected area. Interview techniques were used to collect data and analyzed through thematic analysis using NVivo-10 software. Findings show that school counselors' definitions of bullying vary according to their experience and context. Study participants said verbal bullying was the most preventable, and the counselors noted the increasing rate of cyberbullying. The study also found that some students report bullying cases to teachers, especially to counsellors. Moreover, it was found that counselors have the necessary training to handle bullying and employ educational programs, awareness campaigns, student development programs, and teacher-oriented programs. The Teacher Care Project: enhancing motivation, engagement and effort of a-motivated students

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of different relatedness supportive settings on the motivation, engagement and effort of a-motivated students in secondary physical education. 147 a-motivated students from 5 schools were taught in a setting that was either high or low in support for their need of relatedness. Data were collected using a pretest and posttest design to examine a-motivated student_s level of motivation, engagement and effort. Repeated measures ANOVA_s with follow-up comparisons were utilized to analyze the data. Results indicated that students engaged in the high supportive setting significantly increased their levels of motivation, engagement and effort compared with students in the low support group. Findings from this study provide the first empirical evidence that supporting relatedness can positively influence the affective aspects of students with low motivation. The effects of game-based practice on young learners’ vocabulary acquisition in learning Chinese language

This study investigated the effects of game-based practice on year three pupils_ vocabulary acquisitions in the Chinese language classroom. Two different teaching practices were adopted, i.e. a game-based practice for the experimental group and a conventional based practice for the control group. The teaching program was the same for both groups. Each group had 30 pupils which were randomly assigned. Data was collected through a vocabulary acquisition test. Statistical results revealed that there were no significant differences between the two groups on vocabulary acquisition test. However, the middle vocabulary level pupils in the experimental group made significant improvement and performed as well as the high vocabulary level pupils. When tested separately, the pupils of high, middle and low vocabulary levels in the experimental group significantly performed better than those in the control group. Strengthening relationship among multi-ethnic students in Malaysia

The education system in Malaysia plays an important role in strengthening the relationship among multi-ethnic students. This article uses data drawn from interview session, observation and document analysis, which aim to identify strategies to strengthen relationship among multi-ethnic students in a secondary school. Through purposive sampling, two school administrators, seven teachers and twenty form four students from various ethnicities were selected. This study revealed that, there were four strategies such as nurturing national integration, encouraging interactions among multi-ethnic students, stimulating acceptance and tolerance between students and creating school environment that reflects diversity of ethnics. The present findings provide new evidence illustrating how a secondary school implemented various strategies to strengthen student relationship and a few recommendations were made.
