Effects of aqua-aerobic exercise on the cardiovascular fitness and weight loss among obese students
Hossein Abadi, Fariba
Background: Evidence revealed that aquatic exercises are safer than land-based exercises and it allows increased movement amplitude and energy expenditure for obese, middle-aged, or elderly people, it is important to ascertain the physiological effects of aqua aerobic exercise on health among the obese students. This study aimed to determine the effects of aqua aerobics exercise on cardiovascular fitness (VO2max and resting HR) and weight loss (weight, BMI, and WHR) among obese students. Methods: Fifty healthy obese college students (22.28±1.83 years) with minimum BMI value of 28 kg.m-², voluntarily took part in this study. They have been divided randomly into an exercising group (n=25 and BMI=33.11±5.32kg.m-2) and control group (n=25 and BMI=33.64±3.12kg.m-2). The exercising group participated in an aqua aerobic exercise at 60-75% of maximum HR for 60 minutes, three times per week for 12 weeks. The changes (by pre and post-test) in weight, WHR, resting HR and VO2max were measured .....

Association between sleep quality and physical fitness components among 13-14 years Male students
Hossein Abadi, Fariba
This study aimed to determine the association between sleep quality (SQ) and physical fitness components among 13-14 years old male students in a secondary school in Kota Kemuning Selangor, Malaysia. The sample consist of 162 students purposively selected according to their physical fitness levels (SEGAK test score). They were in three categories; higher (A score: 4.33±0.21, N=54), intermediate (B score: 3.27±0.26, N=54) and lower (C score: 2.35±0.36, N=54). The SEGAK tests were consist of BMI, step test, push-up, curl-up, and sit and reach. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) selfreported questionnaire was used to measure SQ. The descriptive analysis and Pearson Product Moment test were used to analyze the data. The results showed 51.8% of the students with higher fitness level, and 42.6% of the intermediate level reported “very good” SQ while only 25.9% of the lower fitness level had “very good” SQ. The correlation between overall SQ score and total fitness score was (r=.....

The effect of aquatic exercise program on low-back pain disability in obese women
Fariba Hossein Abadi
Low-back pain (LBP) is one of the most current causes to reduce work performance, limit daily activities and raising health cost, and it is increasing as obesity growing as a public health concern. While obese LBP people cannot avoid weight load on the spine in any exercise, they can easily carry out exercise in water. This study aimed to investigate the effect of aquatic exercise on LBP disability among obese women. In this study, a total of 39 women with body mass index (BMI)≥ 27 kg/m2 who suffering from nonspecific chronic LBP were purposively selected. They randomly assigned in two groups; aquatic and control. The aquatic group carried out aquatic exercise, twice per week, 60 min per session, for 12 weeks. LBP disability was measured using modified Oswestry questionnaire with ten sections; pain intensity, personal care, lifting, walking, sitting, standing, sleeping, social life, traveling, and em-ployment. Results showed no significant difference in age, weight, BMI, waist to hip.....

Effect of Progressive Lumbar Stabilization Exercises Among University Students with Non-Specific Low-Back Pain Over Post-COVID-19
Fariba Hossein Abadi, Mohansundar Sankaravel, Fairus Fariza Zainudin, Gunathevan a/l Elumalai, Ali Md Nadzalan
Low-back pain (LBP) has significantly reduced daily activities, work hours and societal productivity, with an increase since the COVID-19 pandemic. The study aimed to investigate the effects of progressive lumbar stabilization exercises (LSE) on back flexibility and pain intensity after four weeks and follow-up until week eight in students with Non-specific low-back pain (NSLBP) after COVID-19. A total of 34 UPSI students with NSLBP (pain duration: >6 months, age: 23.4±2.1 years, weight: 67.2±9.2 kg, BMI: 24.9±1.35 kg.m-2) participated in this study and they were randomly assigned to the LSE (n=17) or control (n=17) groups. The LSE group performed pelvic tilt, double knee-to-chest, bridging, bird dog, superman, cat and camel and partial curl-up exercises for eight weeks, 30 minutes and three sessions per week. The Sit and Reach test was used to assess back flexibility, and pain intensity was assessed using the VAS at the baseline, weeks 4 and 8. In baseline, week 4th and endpoint ti.....

Relationship between Physical Fitness and Match-Play Performance among Youth Netball Players
Ali Md Nadzalan, Cik Nor Fazila Abd Malek, Fariba Hossein Abadi
Physical fitness has long been shown to be crucial for athletes due to its contribution to decrease injury and health risks. In sport, physical fitness is important to increase athletes’ ability to perform technical movement and follow coaches’ tactical plan in the game. This study aims to investigate the anthropometric, physiological, and match-play performance of netball players and examine the relationship between physical fitness and game characteristics among netball players. Material and Methods: A total of ninety-one female netball players (mean ±SD: age 18.78 ±5.41 years, height 1.60 ±0.01 m, and weight 56.13 ± 6.40 kg) participated in this study. Participants underwent standard anthropometry measurement (height, weight, and body mass index) and physical fitness evaluation (standing long jump, 20-meter sprint, agility T-test, sit and reach test, and multistage fitness test). Results: The findings of anthropometric and physical fitness showed that qualified players had s.....
