| 1 | 2011 Article | Identifying relationship involving learning styles and problem solving skills among vocational students Mohamad Mimi Mohaffyza, Yee Mei Heong, Rajuddin Muhammad Rashid, Tee Tze Keong, The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between students’ learning styles and problem solving skills among students in Building Construction Course at Vocational School. This study also investigated the differences between the students’ type of learning styles and their ability to solve the problem using their creative thinking. A survey was carried out on 68 vocational students in Building Construction Course from two Vocational Schools. Felder-Soloman’s Index of Learning Styles (ILS) and elements of creative thinking in problem solving for Vocational Education were the tools used in this study. Creative thinking in problem solving elements was categorized from the subject specification used in Building Construction curriculum. In brief, the ILS have five dimension; Processing, Perception, Input, Understanding and Perception. The results show that the Input style dominates the learning styles of Building Construction’s students in Vocational School and mani..... 2053 hits |
| 2 | 2018 Article | Culture medium and varietal selection for establishment of callus culture of Artemisia annua Chin, Chee Keong Plant tissue culture technology offers the potential of producing medicinally important secondary metabolites such as anti-malarial artemisinin from Artemisia annua. In this study, callus induction of three different varieties of A.annua, namely T1, T2 and Hi varieties was carried out using leaf explants on Murashige & Skoog (MS) and Litvay (LV) media with three different supplementations. MS medium added with 0.5 mg/L BA, 0.5 mg/L NAA and 0.5 g/L of casein hydrolysate (CH) induced the highest yield of callus biomass compared to the effect of picloram- or 2,4-enriched MS medium. T2 variety was found to be the highest yielding variety in this medium. Picloram-enriched MS medium induced better callus in term of callus biomass and friability than 2,4-enriched medium. Hi variety induced in MS medium added with 0.5 mg/L picloram produced highest callus biomass among the three varieties. Callus formed on 0.5 mg/L picloram was also much more easily dispersed than callus of all three varieties..... 1400 hits |

| 4 | 2019 Article | Optimal preservation and storage regimes of total RNAs from different fish tissues Keong, Bun Poh Standardized and optimized methods in preservation and storage of RNA samples on three different tissues were elucidated on fish tissues. The treatments used included excision of fresh tissues, preservation of tissues by immersing completely in RNAlater followed by immediate freezing at -80°C prior to RNA assays. Current data suggests that preserving fish tissues in RNAlater with subsequent storage at -80°C produced satisfactory amount of RNA from dorsal fin and gonad, but not from muscle tissues. The optimized method will provide an alternative storage method option and enables greater usage of RNAlater for preserving RNA from animal cells... 761 hits |
| 5 | 2024 Article | Comparative transcriptomic study of matured fruit and post-fruit developmental stages in Malaysian durian varieties Poh, Keong Bun Durian (Durio zibethinus Murr.) is a famous tropical fruit in Malaysia and well-known for its sweet and creamy taste and unique strong aroma. Despite the differences, durian fruit undergo similar fruit developmental stages upon maturity. However, not much information related to metabolic changes at molecular level are available for fruit development in durian. Hence, the aim of this study was to identify and analyze fruit development transcriptomic changes on six commercial durian varieties (D24, D99, D160, D168, D197, and D200). The transcriptome analysis via RNA-seq assays generated 67 to 234 million raw reads, which are assembled into 49,601 genes with protein coding genes as the largest gene biotype, with a total of 35,832 genes (72.2%). All genes were annotated against Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG). GO analysis revealed genes were highly linked to biological process, cellular components and molecular function, with the highest representation..... 65 hits |
