This study investigated the English language competencies of students in rural primary schools and the problems they faced in the process of learning Mathematics and Science in English in the classrooms. Students and teachers from eight primary schools in the districts of Batang Padang, Perak Tengah and Hilir Perak in the state of Perak were involved in the study. Instruments included language tests, survey questionnaires and interview checklists. Data analysis results produced several findings. Students generally possessed better skills in listening and reading in English in Mathematics and Science. They were weakest in speaking, followed by their writing skills. However, the biggest problem was their overall mastery of the English language. As a result, there was a tendency for teachers to use both Malay and English languages during classroom instructions. Enhancing chemistry teaching and learning using student interests and experiences of natural phenomena

This research concentrated on providing the extensions of what is being taught in the classroom, confront embedded misconceptions directly and making learning integrated and holistic. The purpose of this project was to develop and evaluate the HTML-based courseware of chemistry in natural phenomena - "Chemistry Around Us !" as an additional source of teaching and learning in Basic Chemistry. This research involving five phases of works including Analysis of Source Materials, Prototype Design, Prototype Developing, Evaluation of Prototype and Report Writing. The development of the courseware was done using Windows-based Macromedia Dreamweaver, Apple Macintosh iMovie and GarageBand as the key softwares. The Courseware comprises of fourteen main topics, which total of 59 articles, ranging from natural phenomena, mystery, daily life activity, application in industry / household and history. Construction of English grammar syllabus : focus on the construction of simple sentences

The ability to produce and understand sentences is prerequisite to learning but many Malaysian students face serious problem in producing and understanding them. In this study, the knowledge and skills of simple sentence construction among 600 rural/urban students were investigated; observation and interviews with their teachers were carried out to investigate whether teachers taught sentence building. The students were asked to translate 80 Bahasa Melayu sentences into English. Their sentences were analyzed for accuracy and errors based on 8 different sentence patterns and different forms such as questions and passive. The results show that students' ability to construct sentences was very poor. The easiest sentence pattern was NP + be + NP and the most difficult pattern was NP + VP in the perfect. Their skills in forming all question forms were poor especially in using correct auxiliaries. The poor ability to construct simple sentences was evident due to the negligence of teachers in.....

Kajian ini dijalankan untuk mengenal pasti kesesuaian program pengajian yang ditawarkan oleh UPSI dengan bidang pekerjaan. Lapan aspek yang dilihat ialah kesediaan graduan UPSI meneruskan pengajian diperingkat lebih tinggi, kesesuaian program UPSI dengan keperluan bidang keguruan, pandangan graduan terhadap pelaksanaan kokurikulum, kesesuaian kokurikulum dengan keperluan sekolah, kesediaan graduan bekerja sebagai guru atau bukan guru di luar Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia (KPM), kesesuaian program pengajian UPSI dengan keperluan semasa bidang keguruan mengikut pandangan majikan guru, kesesuaian prasarana dan kemudahan untuk program pengajian mengikut pandangan pensyarah dan kesesuaian graduan bekerja diluar bidang keguruan mengikut pandangan majikan bukan guru. This study involved the application of CD-ROM dan web-based course management system, WebCT in the teaching and learning activities. The integration of CD-ROM and web application eased the use of multimedia materials in "on-line" or "off-line" learning. This method provided a more open learning opportunities to the students. They had the opportunity to learn according to their level of capability and also free to revisit any section of the learning contents to enhance their understanding. WebCT application enabled the students to communicate virtually with teachers and friends over the internet by using e-mail, bulletin board, forum and discussion group that were provided in the system. The students could initiate discussion by posting questions on the topics or subjects that they did not understand on the WebCT at any time and any place. The instructor could provide solutions, guidelines or more information to help the students better understand the topic or subject they have learnt. .....
