Predicting school-based assessment practice of teachers in senior secondary schools in Ijebu division of Ogun State, Nigeria
Ojo, Abiodun Adebowale
The significance of school-based assessment is being undermined by inadequacies inherent in the process. Stakeholders’ efforts and research attempts at improving the situation have not yielded desired results. It was on this premise, the researchers sought to predict school-based assessment practice of senior secondary teachers from their SBA knowledge and attitudes towards SBA in Ijebu Division of Ogun State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey design was adopted. A sample of four hundred (n=400) teachers were selected as participants using simple random sampling techniques. The three instruments for data collection were Teachers Knowledge of Assessment Technique (r = .62), Teachers Attitudes towards SBA scale (r = .74) and School-Based Assessment Practice of Teachers Questionnaire (r = .69). The results indicated that both predictors account for 5.1% (R = .051; P..

Effect of one-minute-paper cooperative learning strategy on junior secondary school (JSS2) students academic achievement in Business studies in Ogun State, Nigeria
Jimoh, Abiodun Ganiua
This study examined the effect of the one-minute-paper cooperative learning strategy on junior secondary school student's academic achievement in business studies in Ogun State Nigeria. The study adopted a quasi-experimental design with a 2 x 2 x 2 factorial matrix. Three research questions and 4 hypotheses guided the study. 200 Junior Secondary School II students, who in their intact classes, were selected from four secondary schools in Ogun State, were used for the experiment. Business Studies Achievement Test (BSAT) was the instrument validated and used for data collection. The reliability coefficient of the BSAT was determined using the Cronbach alpha technique and the analysis yielded a coefficient of 0.85. Mean was used to answer the research questions while Multivariate Analysis of Covariance (MANCOVA) was employed to test the hypotheses at a 0.05 level of significance. The findings showed that there is a significant difference between the mean scores of students taught business.....

Numerical analysis for prediction of optimum deformation of long tunnel crown stability with respect to excavation depth
Lawal Ezekiel Abiodun
Optimum stability of tunnel structures and ground movements are influenced by excavation, and these are issues of greater concern as far as the stability of any underground structure is concerned. The critical area of concern is the stability of the tunnel crown which requires special attention to ensure the stability of the tunnel structures and the safety of both man powers and the equipment used. Before the advent of powerful design aids tools such as numerical analysis software, the tunnel’s design was primarily based on experience. The use of numerical analysis software has made it possible to model and predict the actual site conditions to achieve safer and more economical designs. This study aims to understand and predict the stability of the tunnel crown with respect to excavation depth by using Plaxis 2D v8 finite element analysis software and East Coast Railway, Malaysia tunnel project as a case study. The site condition was modeled and excavated at various tunnel depths of.....

Effects of Heuristic Problem-Solving strategies on students’ achievement and retention in Mathematics in Ogun State, Nigeria
Oluwadayo, Abiodun Taiwo
The ability to solve problems is an important and integral part of learning Mathematics. Teaching students to use Heuristic Problem-Solving strategies can help them become expert problem solvers and assist them in transferring and applying their contextual knowledge to novel problems and situations. It is on this background that this study examines the effects of Heuristic Problem-Solving strategies on students’ achievement in and retention in Mathematics in Ogun State, Nigeria. The research used quantitative and quasi-experimental design. A total of eighty students from two public secondary classes participated in the study. Three hypotheses guided the study. Mathematics Achievement Test (MAT) was used as an instrument to collect data. The reliability coefficient of MAT is 0.82. Data was analysed using independent t-test analysis. This finding revealed that the students that were exposed to Heuristic Problem Solving performed better than those in the conventional group. In conclusio.....

Effect of mind-mapping instructional strategy on students achievement in Mathematics in Ogun State Nigeria
Abiodun, T.O
Several studies have shown that using mind mapping as an approach to teaching Mathematics has a more positive impact on student achievement than traditional approaches. However, these studies did not address the effect of mind mapping in other countries, such as Nigeria, at a secondary school level; they focused more on digital mind_mapping for pre-service teachers. This study examined how students' mathematics achievement in Ogun State, Nigeria, was affected by the mind mapping instructional technique. Nonrandomized pre-test post-test control group design, or quasi-experimental non-equivalent group research design, was used. A simple random sample technique was used to assign one school to the experimental group and another school to the control group. The data required for the study was collected using the Mathematics Achievement Test, which has a reliability coefficient of 0.87 according to the Kuder-Richardson formula 20 (KR20). Four hypotheses were tested at the 0.05 significant l.....
