The development of Kwartalino financial education program for kindergarten learners

Teaching basic personal financial concepts and principles even among young learners is beneficial not only for the child, but also for the family and the entire society. This study aimed to develop an integrated financial education program for kindergarten learners. The study employed developmental research following three stages (analysis, design, and development) which include document analysis and curriculum mapping of three international financial education standards to the Philippine Kindergarten Curriculum, expert consultations, and teacher interviews. Development and implementation of kwartalino financial education program and its effect on kindergarten learners

The purpose of this study was to develop and implement a financial education program and determine its effect on kindergartens’ financial literacy. Development of the Kwartalino Financial Education Program involved adaptation of the ADDIE model. Purposive sampling was used in the first phase of the program development and consisted of six kindergarten teachers and five experts. Interview with teachers revealed essential components of the program like appropriate learning activities, relevant instructional materials, and active parent involvement. Data from comparative analysis and financial education standards checklist show appropriate financial lessons for kindergarten children. Experts confirmed the program’s content validity. Examining parents’ perceptions of a Financial Education Program

Parents as stakeholders have insights that should be considered to improve the quality of education of their children. This study examined parents’ perceptions of a financial education program implemented in a kindergarten class. In this descriptive qualitative study, the researcher utilized semi-structured interview to gather data. Purposive sampling technique was used to determine participants of the study. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results of the study revealed four themes: Theme 1: Active Family Engagement; Theme 2: Appropriate Financial Contents; Theme 3: Workbook as Useful Instructional Material; and Theme 4: Suitable Learning Activities. These results show that financial education programs should have features that includes parent involvement, selection of appropriate grade-level financial lessons, use of instructional materials, and inclusion of relevant activities in teaching financial education lessons among young learners.
