| 2019 Article | The effects of video tutorial screencast sketchUp make (VTS-SUM) in learning 3D geometry for low achievers Faridah Hanim Yahya Problems in learning 3D geometry are related to students’ spatial abilities that require them to create mental images representatives of the objects. Studies had shown that 3D software should be incorporated into teaching in order to assist students in visualizing. However, students often exhibit difficulties when using it as they are not familiar with tools and could not remember steps in completing a task. The purpose of the study is to examine the effect of a learning strategy which uses video tutorial screencast SketchUp Make (VTS-SUM) for topic plan and elevation, in mathematics for upper secondary school in Malaysia. The videos were designed using ADDIE Model which integrated screencast technique with a 3D software (SketchUp Make). A total of 30 low achiever students from one secondary school were involved in this study. They watched the video tutorials and performed hands-on activities using the software to complete the tasks. This paper includes a report of a usability test w..... 1018 hits |
| 2021 Article | Experts and designated users evaluations on visual tools screencast SketchUp Make (ViToS-SUM) Faridah Hanim Yahya The problem and the aim of the study. Students at secondary school are facing problems in learning Mathematics for topic Geometry. The purpose of this study is to examine the validity of a learning strategy for 3-dimensional Geometry, using Visual Tools Screencast SketchUp Make, called ViToS-SUM. Researchmethods. ViToS-SUM consists of four components: level of van Hiele geometrical thinking, visual spatial skills, visual tools and video tutorial screencast SketchUp Make. A topic in form 3 mathematics, Plans and Elevations was chosen for this study. The whole process of design and development of ViToS-SUM adopted the five cyclic stages of ADDIE instructional design model. This article addresses the details of the final two stages specifically, implementation and evaluation prior to pilot test. Twelve students from a secondary school and three experts involved in this study. Quantitative approaches were used to collect data as well as to analyse the experts? and students? views on the ap..... 457 hits |
| 2023 Article | How do students decision-making ability in solving open-ended problems? Faridah Hanim Yahya An open-ended problem in learning mathematics is a problem with more than one answer or method of solving. In solving open-ended problems in learning mathematics, one of the abilities students must use is decision-making ability. Each student has a variety of capacities, so this study aims to determine students' decision-making abilities in solving open-ended problems in learning mathematics. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this study were four students with different numbers of correct answers in working on open-ended problems. Data collection was carried out using tests and interviews. The results showed that (1) the decision-making ability of the subject who answers correctly for both problems is complete because they fulfill all indicators, the subject can identify goals, make decisions, evaluate the results of determination, and present and remember between problems with things known to the problem and related to decisions that have b..... 197 hits |
| 2023 Article | Factors affecting teachers integration of visualization technology in geometry: PLS-SEM analysis Faridah Hanim Yahya Visualization is identified as a crucial element that affects students performance in Geometry. Technology plays an important role to assist weak students in visualizing concepts in Geometry. Teachers need proper planning in teaching to help their students in understanding the concepts. This study used partial least squares-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) to test the hypotheses to verify the effects of variables on teachers intention of integrating visualization technology in teaching geometry. The model consists of four constructs: teaching strategy, teaching activity, selection of media, tools and teaching aids, and assessment. The research instrument consisted of 30 survey questions for four main constructs: teaching strategy, teaching activity, selection of media, tools, and teaching aids and assessment. The questionnaires were distributed to 180 teachers who teach Mathematics in secondary schools. The study used a PLS-SEM modeling tool to analyze data for reliability and v..... 227 hits |
| 2024 Article | Geometric AR-based pedagogical module is beneficial: Affecting factors from the lens of Malaysian mathematics secondary school teachers Faridah Hanim Yahya, Mohd Ridhuan Mohd Jamil, Mohd Muslim Md Zalli The purpose of this study was to predict the likelihood that teachers would consider the Geometric AR-based Pedagogical Module (GeAR-PM) as beneficial, and study the factors that influence their decision. The data for this study was gathered via a survey method. A sample of 202 Malaysian secondary school teachers was randomly selected as respondents for this study. Specifically, the respondents were asked to answer questions using an instrument which was developed based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model. This study comprised four UTAUT variables: performance expectation, effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions, and one additional variable, self-efficacy. All variables showed high reliability with Cronbach Alpha’s values between 0.87 to 0.91. The data was analyzed using a binary logistic regression via Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 27.0. The findings revealed that a teacher's belief that GeAR-P..... 73 hits |
| 2024 Article | How can we resocialize adolescents in rehabilitation schools in Malaysia? Islamic education and programs as an alternative approach Noor Insyiraah Abu Bakar, Mohd Muslim Md Zalli, Zahari Suppian, Azlina Abu Bakar @ Mohd, Faridah Hanim Yahya Resocialization is an important process for a juvenile, and it can be achieved through various means, one of which is religion. This article solely focuses on the resocialization of juveniles through the implementation of a religious approach. A case study design was used involving two rehabilitation schools housing male and female juveniles who have broken the law and whose ages range from 10 to 18. Two schools, each housing a different gender, were chosen to provide a more detailed understanding of the resocialization process. A total of 10 teachers and 15 juveniles were selected as respondents through the purposive sampling technique. This technique allows the selection of appropriate individuals based on the scope of the study. Data was gathered through in-depth interviews with all respondents. To support the interview data, observations at the research sites were also carried out. The findings revealed that the implementation of Islamic education and programs helps the resocializa..... 109 hits |
