Alternative treatments of insulin-independent diabetes mellitus have attracted many researchers over the years. The treatment should have a clearer mechanism of action and easier to administer. Asian traditional medicine contains a number of herbal extracts believed to combat the symptoms of diabetes mellitus. Thus, the purpose of this study was to investigate the potential of agarwood leaf extracts against type II diabetic ICR mice. A group of ICR mice of both sexes, aged 8 weeks were induced by a single intraperitoneal injection of 100 mg/kg body weight of streptozotocin (STZ). Mice (fasting) with blood glucose over 200 mg/dl were used in this experiment. Diabetic mice were divided into three groups and were forced fed with 50, 100 and 150 mg plant extract /kg body weight for 14 consecutive days respectivly.
