Evaluation on the implementation of Bachelor of Education program, Faculty of Sport Science and Coaching

Journal of Sports Science and Physical Education 5(1): 77-94, 2016 - This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the Bachelor of Education (Honours) programmes offered by the Faculty of Sports Science and Coaching in producing quality graduates and their employability in the profession. Samples for this study comprised of 49 graduates from the B Ed (Sports Science), 25 graduates from B Ed (Coaching Science) and nine B Ed (Physical Education) who have graduated from 2010 to 2014 as well as their respective employers and peers were selected as respondents. Six to ten samples from each programme together with their employers were interviewed further using guided questionnaire. Data was analysed descriptively as well as correlation and regression methods. The findings showed that the graduates mastered very high levels of the knowledge and skills of the courses related to their respective programmes. Journal of Sports Science and Physical Education 5(1): 35-48, 2016 - This study aimed to determine the validity and reliability of Learning Assessment Model for Invasion Category Games in Year 4 Physical Education. This study uses a holistic instrument for assessing student performance standards for the assessment of Invasion Category Games that includes teacher observation that consisted of psychomotor, cognitive and affective domain. Measuring instruments were constructed based on five main sources that were the Handbook of Physical Education Teaching, Curriculum and Assessment Document Standard of Physical Education, Physical Education textbooks, Professional Circular No. 1/2014 and the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025. This study was conducted to determine the level of planning and preparation for the contents of the Physical Education teacher in the implementation of Physical Education curriculum form four of the strand physical fitness. The instrument was a structured interview checklist form. The sample consisted of 50 teachers who teach physical education options in secondary schools in Gombak District. Findings showed that all items in muscular strength component have mean score at the highest level. Based on the overall mean score, the level of planning and preparation for the Physical Education teacher toward curriculum content is high (m = 4:33; sd = .79). University students subject matter knowledge and misconception of teaching games for understanding and its implication to teaching practice

This study is to track the subject matter knowledge of and misconception about Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) of fourth year undergraduate pre-service teachers‟ physical education majors at an Australian university. The test of reliability on misconception scale are subjected to a Rasch analysis (KR-20 = .52) which consists of 20 dichotomous questions with true/false answers. Analyses of the data reveal that students achieve a credit on subject matter knowledge and attain four misconceptions about TGfU. There is a significant (p < 0.05) difference in the scores for subject matter knowledge and concepts of TGfU through paired samples t test. These results imply that subject matter knowledge does have an effect on students‟ concepts of TGfU but with very low relationship (r(53 = .19, p < 0.05). The purpose of this study is to investigate the level of Physical Education Teachers’ self-efficacy in teaching Physical Education in secondary schools. Around 106 respondents were chosen randomly to represent novice and expert teachers in teaching Physical Education. Data were collected and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results indicated a high level of self-efficacy among the Physical Education teachers. Pearson correlation analysis was used to show the relationship of self-efficacy of physical education teachers in relation to the teaching of Physical Education subject. The results of this study showed that the teachers’ self-efficacy of the three variables, that is, students’ involvement, instructional strategy and class management were at the high level.
