1 | 2023 article | Virtual learning among ESL Teachers in Malaysian secondary schools during COVID-19 Kaliamma Kasthuri Balakrishnan Abstract This study aimed at investigating challenges and perceptions of virtual learning among ESL teachers in secondary schools during the pandemic, COVID-19. A quantitative research method was used that used a survey for data collection. The instrument involved was a questionnaire created using Google Forms and distributed via social media. The sample was selected randomly and comprised 50 secondary school English language teachers in Malaysia. A descriptive analysis was carried out using SPSS software 2.5 to find the overall level of agreement in terms of frequencies and percentages. The findings showed a positive indication of English language teachers’ challenges and perceptions of online teaching, whereby they managed to overcome the technical issues and improved time management in teaching virtually. 2 | 2024 thesis | Malaysian primary school ESL teachers perspectives and challenges on virtual teaching and learning Kaliamma Balakrishnan This study is aimed at how ESL teachers in Malaysian primary schools perceived and
dealt with challenges while conducting virtual teaching and learning during the
COVID-19 outbreak. To gain a thorough understanding of the research, this study used
a sequential explanatory mixed method design. The sequential explanatory mixed
methods design involved quantitative and qualitative approaches. For quantitative data,
the response from 130 respondents who answered the questionnaire was used to analyse
the data using descriptive analysis. The descriptive analysis involves SPSS statistics
analysis of frequency and percentage. As for qualitative data, a semi-structured
interview session with five ESL teachers from primary schools in Klang Valley was
conducted. The data were analysed using thematic analysis in which prominent themes
were identified. The findings showed that the majority of the primary school ESL
