This study aims to determine students’ social media usage for educational purposes and to analyze their perceptions of the impact of social media usage on academic performance. A quantitative method with two types of data, namely quantitative data and qualitative data was used in this study which involved a sample of 54 undergraduate students from a public university in Malaysia. Open-ended and closed-ended questionnaires were utilized as research instruments, and both questionnaires were administered online. A descriptive statistical method was applied to analyze quantitative data, while thematic analysis was employed for qualitative data. The results revealed that 85.2% of the respondents believed that utilizing social media for learning activities had a positive effect on their academic performance, while the remaining 14.8% chose to be neutral.
