    This study was conducted with the aim to portray the level in which the African American women were humiliated and dominated by the males, generally, and the whites, particularly, during and after the Civil Right Movement. Three research objectives were formed to achieve the aim. These research objectives were to investigate how the African American women were racially oppressed by the whites, to examine how the black American women suffered from patriarchal oppression by the black men and to examine the impact of racial and patriarchal oppression practiced against the black women. Four selected novels by Alice Walker were analysed to achieve these objectives. The theory employed in this study was the Black Feminist Critical Theory and additionally, this theory was chosen as the conceptual framework to analyse the themes in the selected novels that incorporated black feminist issues with racial matters. The within-tree distribution of the pupae and larval stages of Paliga damastesalis Walker was studied on young 6-12 month old teak Tectona grandis L. at two different sites outside outbreak periods in the year 2000. At each site, trees below 1.8 m in height with at least four nodes were inspected thoroughly for the presence of larvae or pupae. The larvae were strongly associated with leaves of the upper nodes, which were comparatively younger than those of the lower nodes, indicating that the larvae preferred and actively sought to consume younger leaves. More than 60% of the larvae were found on leaves between the second and fourth nodes. However, oviposition behaviour could have also influenced the larval distribution since the larvae completed their development not far from where the eggs were oviposited. Metisa plana Walker and Pteroma pendula Joannis are important pests of the oil palm, Elaeis guineensis Jacquin, which is the primary agricultural crop in Malaysia. Although there is a history of integrated management of the bagworms, information gaps exist with regard to their incidence, biology, dispersion and population dynamics. Such new information is needed to improve the current integrated management of these pests. Analysis of historical records of bagworm infestations over 63 955 ha of oil palm in 69 estates in Peninsular Malaysia showed M. plana and P. pendula to be the primary pests. Infestations were of single or mixed species, and ranged from nil to 7811 ha yr-1. Cumulative infestations were 18 297 ha, 4904 ha and 14 607 ha for single species of P. pendula and M. plana, and for mixed species of P. pendula and M. plana, respectively.
