The main aim of the study is to investigate the effectiveness of Spoken Word Poetry (SWP) as an alternative method to improve speaking skills among ESL learners. The study employed the explanatory sequential mixed-methods design. Purposive sampling was employed to select 196 respondents for the questionnaire survey and 6 participants for the focus group interviews. In the quasi-experimental phase, intact group sampling was used to assign students to experimental and control groups. Quantitative data were collected through surveys and speaking tests. The qualitative data were gathered via focus group interviews to explore participants' perceptions and experiences of SWP. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean scores) and inferential statistics (independent samples t-test) to compare the experimental and control groups.
