1 | 2019 article | Antioxidant, α-glucosidase and 15-lipoxygenases inhibitory activities of cassia singueana del. and c. sieberiana dc. (fabaceae) Saidu Jibril The present study investigates the antioxidant, α-glucosidases, and anti-inflammatory properties of leaf extract of Cassia singueana and C. sieberiana. Cassia singueana and C. sieberiana are restorative plants utilised for the treatment of diabetes, ulcer, malaria, and wound healing. The extracts were evaluated for antioxidant activities via DPPH radical scavenging, ABTS+ radical cation scavenging, FRAP, β-carotene bleaching, phenolic content, and flavonoid content. Meanwhile, α-glucosidases and anti-inflammatory properties were also evaluated against α-glucosidase enzyme and 15-LOX inhibitory activities. The results for C. singueana extract revealed potent activities for DPPH (IC50: 9.35 µg/mL), phenolic contents (120.01 mg GAE/g dry extract), and α-glucosidases inhibition (I%: 90.47%). On the other hand, the findings for C. sieberiana recorded significant activities for FRAP (2120 µmol Fe2+/g dry extract) and 15-LOX inhibition (I%: 80.93%). The extract of C. singueana and C. s..... 576 hits |
2 | 2020 article | Ultrasonic assisted extraction and gas chromatography-tandem mass spectroscopy (GC-MS/MS) analysis of extracts from four cassia species Jibril, Saidu Ultrasonic assisted extraction (UAE) process increases the rate of extraction, the yield of extracted components and reduces extraction time. The high sensitivity of GC-MS/MS provides reliable identification of phytoconstituents present in a plant extract. This research is to develop an easy and effective method for the extraction and analysis of phytochemicals in C. singueana, C. sieberiana, C. tora and C. occidentalis using UAE and GC-MS/MS techniques. The crude extracts obtained from the four Cassia species under UAE conditions of 50 mins extraction time, 50 oC extraction temperature and 20 mL/g solvent to sample ratio were analyzed using GC-MS/MS. Thirty-four compounds were identified by comparison of their mass spectra with those in the National Institute of Standards and Technology library, requiring at least 80% similarity. These compounds comprise fatty acids, fatty alcohol, carboxylic acid, long-chain alkanes, diterpenes, triterpenes, sterols and anthraquinones. n-Hexadecanoic..... 791 hits |
3 | 2021 article | Ultrasonic-assisted rapid extraction of cassia sieberiana D.C.: a box-behnken design process optimisation Jibril Saidu Ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE) on the Cassia sieberiana root was optimised by a three-factor-three-level Box-Behnken design (BBD). A single factor experiment revealed the logic ranges for the UAE parameters for extraction time, temperature and solvent to sample ratio were 10-60 min, 30-60 C and 10-30 mL/g, respectively. The BBD showed that a second-order polynomial model produced a satisfactory fitting of the experimental data (R2 = 0.9917, P < 0.001) with regards to extraction yield. The optimal UAE conditions were 29 min, 45 C and 16.79 mL/g. Under the optimised conditions, the UAE yielded 1.28 0.7% of C. sieberiana root extract as to 0.69 1.1% obtained by maceration and 0.82 0.5% obtained by Soxhlet extraction. The results affirmed that the BBD was suitable in establishing the optimum UAE conditions for a maximum extraction yield while being more efficient and rapid than conventional methods (maceration and Soxhlet extraction). ? 2021 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd....... 800 hits |
