| 1 | 2020 Thesis | The effectiveness of learning Object-Oriented Programming concepts through role playing game among undegraduate students Wong, Yoke Seng This research aims to examine the effectiveness of learning the concept of Object
Oriented Programming (OOP) through role-playing games among undergraduate students. A
framework on game-based learning (GBL) has been developed and a variety of platform games
(computer-based and mobile) titled Odyssey of Phoenix have been developed. The development of this
game has combined the concept of constructive alignment and design of game elements with
appropriate OOP learning content. A total of nine experts were involved in the validity of game
design and validity of learning content with each having more than five years of experience. A
pilot test was conducted involving 20 students. This study uses a quantitative approach
through quasi- experimental pre-test and post-test involving a randomly selected sample of 214
first year undergraduate students in computer science from three institutions..... 2184 hits |
| 2 | 2024 Article | Information visualization on the reading comprehension for elementary school students in Malaysia Seng, Wong Yoke Visualization strategies are strategies that utilize images to help strengthen the students' understanding of reading comprehension. Through this strategy, students will describe the meaning obtained from the text in the form of rough sketches. The use of these images allows the students to be more focused on the continuation of reading because they understand the meaning more clearly. This study aims to investigate the impact of information visualization techniques on reading comprehension performance among elementary school students in Malaysia. The study adapted quantitative study through a quasi-experimental design and survey questionnaire. 300 students from Standard 4 to Standard 6 (10 to 12 years old) were chosen as the participants of the study. They were divided into Experimental Group (n=150) and the control Group (n=150). The experiment has been done in 2 classes per week, in a total of 6 weeks. The participants in the Experimental Group were taught reading comprehension usin..... 162 hits |
| 3 | 2024 Article | Modelling for climate adaptation in urban drain design with orifice flow restrictor Wong, Yoke Seng Due to the increasing stormwater runoff in urban areas, stormwater infrastructure requires modification to address the flash flooding issues. Occurrences of floodwater overflowing the urban drain have urged drainage engineers to re-look its design. Conventionally, the urban drain is designed to free flow following the provided drain slope. This paper is challenging the old design by introducing orifices into the drain. The lesser-known stormwater characteristics restricted by orifices in open drains were investigated. In this case, twenty-four units of terrace houses were selected as the study area with special attention to the 170 m front drain with a dimension of 0.5 m x 0.55 m. The drain was inserted with one to three orifices of 0.45 m diameter separating the drain into one or more compartments. Three scenarios were formulated, namely S1 with one orifice plate at 170 m, S2 with two orifice plates at 86 and 170 m, and S3 with three orifices at 50, 110 and 170 m, from the starting po..... 77 hits |
