1 | 2017 Article | Odyssey of phoenix: a propriety game based learning game to learn object-oriented programming Wong, Yoke Seng Object-oriented programming is a required fundamental skillset for all computer science related students. However, teaching object-oriented programming to undergraduate year one students is challenging and academician need to use a different approach to find suitable methods to enhance student understanding, self-interest and self-experimentation. However, the classroom- based learning and teaching methods are insufficient to support learners or students, especially in learning a programming related subject. A game-based learning approach could be an efficient way for the students to learn object-oriented programming. This is mainly because the empirical evidence that validates computer games is an efficient tool for learning object-oriented programming is still absent from the literature. The proposed computer game is developed according to the game-based learning design approach model, where several relevant theories, such as condition of learn, operant conditioning, constructive, hi..... 949 hits |
2 | 2020 Thesis | The effectiveness of learning Object-Oriented Programming concepts through role playing game among undegraduate students Wong, Yoke Seng This research aims to examine the effectiveness of learning the concept of Object
Oriented Programming (OOP) through role-playing games among undergraduate students. A
framework on game-based learning (GBL) has been developed and a variety of platform games
(computer-based and mobile) titled Odyssey of Phoenix have been developed. The development of this
game has combined the concept of constructive alignment and design of game elements with
appropriate OOP learning content. A total of nine experts were involved in the validity of game
design and validity of learning content with each having more than five years of experience. A
pilot test was conducted involving 20 students. This study uses a quantitative approach
through quasi- experimental pre-test and post-test involving a randomly selected sample of 214
first year undergraduate students in computer science from three institutions..... 1725 hits |
3 | 2024 Article | Defining the Collaborative-Constructivism Based Learning and Teaching Approach in Malaysian Primary Schools in Supporting the Hybrid Learning of Visual Arts Education: A Fuzzy Delphi Method Study Lee Hoi Yeh, Wong Yoke Seng, Khoo Yin Yin, Norzuraina Mohd Nor Education in Malaysia has undergone transformation and reformation over decades to meet contemporary needs. In the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) has brought direct impact to the field of education, as a steppingstone for generating future workforce. To meet these demands, 21st century learners who have the potential to shape a competitive future nation by possessing 21st century skills: critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication. Therefore, the transformation in learning and teaching practices is necessary following the rapid development in information, communication, and multimedia technology. Even now, Malaysian mainstream educators continually report that they need better understandings and knowledge to be proficient in supporting individualized, personalized, and differentiated learning to stimulate the improvement of learner-centred learning, not the traditional teaching and learning process with teacher-centred. This study upholds a new defining on..... 17 hits |
4 | 2024 Article | Information Visualization on the Reading Comprehension for Elementary School Students in Malaysia Wong Yoke Seng, Lee Hoi Yeh, Norzuraina Mohd Nor Visualization strategies are strategies that utilize images to help strengthen the students' understanding of reading comprehension. Through this strategy, students will describe the meaning obtained from the text in the form of rough sketches. The use of these images allows the students to be more focused on the continuation of reading because they understand the meaning more clearly. This study aims to investigate the impact of information visualization techniques on reading comprehension performance among elementary school students in Malaysia. The study adapted quantitative study through a quasi-experimental design and survey questionnaire. 300 students from Standard 4 to Standard 6 (10 to 12 years old) were chosen as the participants of the study. They were divided into Experimental Group (n=150) and the control Group (n=150). The experiment has been done in 2 classes per week, in a total of 6 weeks. The participants in the Experimental Group were taught reading comprehension usin..... 15 hits |
5 | 2024 Article | Active Learning on Students 'Interpersonal Skills Impact: An Online Theatre Approach Norzuraina Binti Mohd Nor, Lee Hoi Yeh, Wong Yoke Seng, Tajul Rosli bin Shuib, Encik Amsalib bin Pisali, Encik Amir bin Hashim, Zainuddin bin Abindinhazir This study aims to examine the improvement of interpersonal skills through the application of active learning in the teaching and learning of art education. The approach used is the theatre-play approach. Theatre games are used as a fresh and appropriate approach to learning art education subjects through various types of games applied with multiple theatre techniques, including improvisation, role-playing, physical exercise, and voice acting. The issue of art education is a theoretical and practical one that requires high focus during learning. Therefore, theatre games are applied to encourage active learning and prevent students from getting bored when education is conducted online. Students play, act, improvise, and sing while learning. This qualitative study used observation and interview methods to involve eight Form 5 students at the Malaysian Art School. The study applies social learning theory and constructivist learning theory. The data was thematically analysed using Nvivo so..... 19 hits |
6 | 2024 Article | Communication Technology-Enhanced Collaborative and Constructivism Learning in Improving Students’ Skills on Artworks Production: A Structural Equation Modelling Approach Lee Hoi Yeh, Wong Yoke Seng, Norzuraina Binti Mohd Nor, Ida Puteri binti Mahsan 21st century learning is a dynamic and interconnected educational environment that leverages technology, fosters collaboration, and supports continuous and personalized learning. This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between learning outcomes, learning contents, deliver y strategies, learning activities and assessment forms in Structured Technology-Enhanced Collaborative (ST-EC) Learning Environment. To fulfil the research purpose, we developed a questionnaire with sufficient reliability as an instrument to evaluate teachers’ perspectives on five components in the ST-EC learning environment. The valid responses were collected from 240 primary school teachers. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) analysis was used to examine the relationship between the constructs in the hypothesised model. Given that the structural model exhibited a good fit to the data (CFI = 1.934; IFI = 0.989; TFI = 0.912; and RMSEA = 0.063). The findings reveal the significant relevance of the m..... 19 hits |
7 | 2024 Article | Modelling for Climate Adaptation in Urban Drain Design with Orifice Flow Restrictor Wong Yoke Seng Due to the increasing stormwater runoff in urban areas, stormwater infrastructure requires modification to address the flash flooding issues. Occurrences of floodwater overflowing the urban drain have urged drainage engineers to re-look its design. Conventionally, the urban drain is designed to free flow following the provided drain slope. This paper is challenging the old design by introducing orifices into the drain. The lesser-known stormwater characteristics restricted by orifices in open drains were investigated. In this case, twenty-four units of terrace houses were selected as the study area with special attention to the 170 m front drain with a dimension of 0.5 m x 0.55 m. The drain was inserted with one to three orifices of 0.45 m diameter separating the drain into one or more compartments. Three scenarios were formulated, namely S1 with one orifice plate at 170 m, S2 with two orifice plates at 86 and 170 m, and S3 with three orifices at 50, 110 and 170 m, from the starting po..... 7 hits |
