The purpose of the current research was to explore the key factors in the development of grass-roots football in Indonesia, including the current development process and challenges. This research was qualitative research. A semi-structured interview was conducted to gather the data. Through interviews, the researcher gathered the participants overview and perspective regarding the current practice and challenges of grass-roots football in Indonesia. In this case, 7 coaches at a grassroots football academy in Indonesia were involved in this research, as determined by the purposive sampling method. The participants were chosen based on their coaching experience, which ranged from 5 to 16 years. A qualitative data analysis application, namely N-Vivo, was utilized to analyze the data. Background. The development path of a football player toward becoming a professional player involves four main aspects: physical, technical, tactical, and psychological ones. Objectives. This study aimed to examine the psychological characteristics of the environment that influence and contribute to the development of football players under 17 years old in Indonesia and Malaysia.
