2 | 2014 thesis | Essays on executive stock options in Malaysia Zuriadah Ismail This thesis examines four questions in the field of executive stock option plans: the legal framework governing their use in Malaysia, their effects on firm performance, managerial turnover and the tax effects. The research presented in this thesis extends the literature on stock options in these directions. Owing to the dearth of studies that have examined the issue of stock option plans, as well as the uniqueness of the Malaysian corporate environment which is dominated by family controlled firms. Using standard event study methodology, in the short-term, the results indicate a negative share price before announcement and a slight positive effect following the announcement. The announcement, however, does not carry any surprise to the market and this seemingly confirms that early information releases before official announcement could be ruled out. 3 | 2009 monograph | The knowledge of health tourism among Malaysian Ismail Zuriadah, Mahjom Nurhanie, Roshidi Ahmad Mohamad Ali, Medical tourism is increasingly becoming popular and the competitions are growing among choices for global community. Health tourism is relatively new in Malaysia, however the emergence of this industry was started since the year 1997. One of the earliest forms of health tourism that of visiting mineral or hot springs has also existed in Malaysia for some time. Recently, the development of health tourism has been extended when there are more and more private hospitals and medical centers offering their healthcare services especially in major cities. Therefore, Malaysia is optimistic over the growth prospects on health tourism and it is also included in the Ninth Malaysia Plan (RMK-9) as one of the possible area in generating revenue for the nation economic. 6 | 2017 article | The effect of switching business focus on share returns predictability Zuriadah Ismail The study aims to examine the announcement effects on shareholders’ returns among the Malaysia firms associated with decision of switching business focus during the study period of 2010 to 2015. In addition to apply an event study methodology, there are 66 announcements related to business switching have been analyzed. Based on the analysis, the main finding of the study indicates positive share returns of around 6% on the announcement day. However, the result shows insignificant value which suggesting that business decision for switching the business direction carry an implication value for capital market in terms of increasing shareholders’ value. While, the insignificant share returns for shareholders could be dedicated to possible reason of premature leakage information and the timing for information release. 7 | 2019 article | An analysis of students Zuriadah Ismail Taking a legal-based paper among the Accounting students is often set as a challenge due to a complexity of legal terms and its application to bring a conceptual and technical knowledge to a real case situation. Being aware of its course natures, determine a knowledge structure would assist the students and course instructor in the development of effective styles of teaching and learning. Guided with the main objective of study to analyze how the Third year of accounting students in a Taxation Class constructed their knowledge by using a semi-structured questionnaire. At the end of the semester, student achievement was measured for describing how students who were successful in this course used effective ways of constructing their knowledge. 8 | 2019 article | Stock returns volatility around sector redefinition: an event case study of Malaysia listed companies Zuriadah Ismail The paper aimed to examine the stock returns performance around sectors redefinition by Bursa Malaysia and how its impact on shareholders' return. The study uses a standard of event study methodology on three listed companies which previously under the sector of trading and services, and now they are classified under utilities (TNB), telecommunications and media (Maxis) and consumer products and services (Genting). From the analysis, main finding shows that shareholders' return experienced a loss by 10% during the period of 31 days. When an event study analysis was extended to different event windows, negative CARs were observed with all values were insignificant. The results suggest that the shareholders returns were influenced by information release, however, the probability of leak information before an official announcement could dedicate to the result.

9 | 2019 article | Incentive effects of granting equity-based payment on reducing top executive turnover Zuriadah Ismail The main focus of the study is to examine the incentive effect of granting equity-based payments for reducing turnover among the executives. In specific, the study was guided on determining the influencing effects of managerial ownership and equity-based payment may reduce executive turnover among the Malaysian Listed companies. From the analysis, the main finding shows that firms with equity-based programme with a presence of family control indicates that turnover is likely to be a lower. This implies that family ties play a significant role for removing of inefficient executives. And, where the family members are also served as the board members, the likelihood to shield from being removed is consistent with the management entrenchment hypothesis. Then, extended examination results for the mix pay components of cash and equity reveal the turnover is found to produce less incentive for executives to stay in the firm.
