Kesalahfahaman pelajar tingkatan empat dalam menyelesaikan persamaan kuadratik

This qualitative study was carried out to explore the understanding of Form Four students about the concept of quadratic equations, to identify the errors made by students when solving quadratic equations and also to identify the reasons why the misconceptions about quadratic equations occurred among students. Ten students were selected through purposive sampling. Data of this study consisted of verbal information and non-verbal information which was collected through interviews and test-questions. The data was analyzed through transcription. The findings of the study showed that students have their own understanding about the concept of quadratic equations. The findings also suggested that students committed seven types or errors when they were solving quadratic equations, i.e. assuming there is only one answer, creating own rules, factorization, invalid cancellation, not writing the equation in the standard form, not putting factorization equals to ‘0’ and basic algebraic operati.....

Kajian ini adalah bertujuan mengenalpasti dan menganalisis karya ilustrasi yang dihasilkan oleh Abdullah Ariff. Kaedah kualitatif dengan pendekatan historikal dan eksplorasi telah digunakan dalam kajian ini. Data dianalisis secara induktif menggunakan teori semiotik. Hasil daripada kajian ini mendapati karya ilustrasi berkenaan telah diterbitkan dalam pelbagai bentuk media cetak dari tahun 1932 sehingga tahun 1959. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa karya ilustrasi berkenaan berupaya menghuraikan makna, tema dan persoalan yang cuba digarap oleh ilustratur, bersesuaian dengan pelbagai situasi dan khalayak pada zaman berkenaan. Enhancing communication through e-mail : implications for the teaching and learning ESL writing

Studies done in the area of composition support that free writing activities helped to develop confidence and efficiency among LI and L2 students. Dialogue-joumal writing is one of the activities in free writing that can provide opportunity to explore and experiment the language. The emerging of microcomputer technology has given endless and remarkable enhancement in language teaching instruction. Studies done by Lee (1998) and Warshauer (1995) indicate the usefulness of e-mail in teaching English where teachers and students can communicate with each other^through formal and informal consultation. Apart from that, e-mail can be used in exchanging dialogue journals and writing conference. The aim of this paper is to look at the effectiveness of dialogue journal writing through e-mail in enhancing communication among the matriculation studnets at the National University of Malaysia. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan tahap kefahaman dan salah konsep pelajar prauniversiti Zon Timur dalam topik Keelektrikan dan Kemagnetan (EM). Kajian ini menggunakan reka  bentuk kuantitatif iaitu kaedah tinjauan. Kajian dimulakan dengan mengadaptasi instrumen Conceptual  Survey in Electricity and Magnetism (CSEM) dengan terjemahan CSEM dari bahasa Inggeris ke bahasa  Melayu diikuti dengan proses kesahan dan kebolehpercayaan. Instrumen yang telah diadaptasi ini  dikenali sebagai Conceptual Survey in Electricity and Magnetism in Malay version (CSEMy)  mengandungi 32 soalan berbentuk aneka pilihan dengan lima pilihan jawapan yang disediakan mengikut  format peperiksaan awam peringkat prauniversiti di Malaysia. CSEMy ditadbir ke atas 267 responden  menggunakan teknik pensampelan rawak kluster. Data dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan  inferens iaitu nilai purata, sisihan piawai dan Ujian-t sampel bebas. Bagi penentuan salah konsep,  setiap jawapan dini.....

The essential role of teaching pragmatic in the Iraqi EFL classroom

This study described the necessity for teaching pragmatic in EFL classroom, research on pragmatics in EFL learning and teaching. The study was presented by a public curriculum lead that prioritizes the necessity for teaching students’ pragmatic to increase their ability to use language successfully in social and academic communications. Additionally, Many English teachers fail to offer pragmatic ability in classroom that is because the lack of understanding of teaching pragmatic. There is increasing material of studies on value of teaching pragmatic on increasing EFL students' communication, as well as usage of request. The importance of the request strategies in the Iraqi EFL classroom

This paper explained English students’ pragmatics development, students’ pragmatics competence in chosen speech acts, request strategies that they used in gaining pragmatic ability. The paper was presented by a public syllabus lead that prioritizes the need for English learners to improve their ability to utilize request strategies successfully in academic and social communications. The study aimed to explain the significance of request strategies on developing EFL learners’ usage of the request in the classroom.
