Identification of adolescent internet addiction through baum test and its impact on student behaviour and academic performance

Abstract

The objective of this study is to identify the relationship between internet addiction, student behaviour and academic performance of urban secondary school students. This study also aims to examine the prevalence of internet addiction in urban secondary schools. A qualitative research design was used to answer three research questions. Three sets of instruments were used to identify internet addiction and to measure its impact on student behaviour and academic performance. Purposive sampling was used to select ten F4 students as respondents. The non-verbal projective test was interpreted using hermeneutic science. The findings of the data analysis of the Internet Addiction Test (IAT) showed only 50% had mild to moderate addiction. However, the findings of the Loganathan and Sivakumar’s Baum Test (LSBT) test showed 90% had mild to severe addiction. Loganathan and Sivakumars Baum Test a psychodiagnostic tool to identify internet addiction

Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the prevalence of internet addiction in urban secondary schools and the impact on school discipline problems and academic performance. A qualitative research design was used to identify internet addiction through a non-verbal projective test. Purposive sampling was used to select ten F4 students as respondents. The respondents had to own smart handphones or laptops and must have access to the internet. The non-verbal projective test used was Loganathan and Sivakumar’s Baum Test (LSBT). LSBT required the respondents to draw four fruit-bearing trees and the drawings were interpreted by using hermeneutic science. The findings of the LSBT showed 90% of the respondents had mild to severe internet addiction. The LSBT projective test provided more in-depth information as it accesses the unconscious mind. Abstract

Kemahiran menulis ayat gramatis ialah suatu aspek teras yang perlu dikuasai oleh murid dalam sesuatu penulisan. Dalam kajian ini, teknik SAMSMT Jadual Bergambar diperkenalkan kepada murid tahap dua SJK (Tamil) bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemahiran membina ayat gramatis dalam mata pelajaran Bahasa Melayu. Kajian ini melibatkan seramai 12 orang murid tahap dua dari sebuah sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Tamil) di daerah Manjung, Perak. Data yang dikumpul melalui kaedah analisis dokumen, pemerhatian dan temu bual telah dianalisis bagi mencapai objektif yang telah ditetapkan. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan teknik SAMSMT Jadual Bergambar dapat meningkatkan kemahiran membina ayat gramatis serta minat dan keseronokkan murid. Kesimpulannya, teknik SAMSMT Jadual Bergambar dapat membantu murid dalam kemahiran menulis ayat gramatis dengan mudah. Analisis proses kognitif dalam penulisan karangan Bahasa Melayu di SJKT menggunakan kaedah Hermeneutik

Abstract

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis proses kognitif dalam penulisan karangan Bahasa Melayu dalam kalangan murid tahun lima di SJK (Tamil), Manjung, Perak. Tiga objektif utama kajian ini adalah mengenal pasti ciri-ciri karangan dalam kategori cemerlang, baik dan memuaskan; mengenal pasti cabaran murid dan guru dalam proses penulisan serta pengajaran; juga meneliti pengaruh proses kognitif terhadap penguasaan murid dalam penulisan karangan melalui pengajaran dan pemudahcaraan. Kaedah Hermeneutik digunakan dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan interpretatif bagi menganalisis karangan murid. Seramai 70 orang murid dipilih sebagai responden, dengan 15 orang daripadanya dipilih berdasarkan kategori cemerlang, baik dan memuaskan untuk mengenal pasti cabaran yang dihadapi dalam penulisan karangan. Tiga orang guru turut terlibat, iaitu dua orang guru Bahasa Melayu dan seorang guru panitia Bahasa Melayu.
