Developing pupils music reading skills through Kodaly-based approach

Abstract

The purpose of this action research is to develop the pupils’ music reading skills through a Kodály-based approach. The pupils were facing difficulties in reading music notations, which is acquired in current Year 4 music curriculum of Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Rendah (KSSR). This study was conducted in a government Chinese primary school in Selangor, Malaysia. A total of 32 pupils from Year 4 were selected to participate in the research. The Year 4 music curriculum from KSSR was used with the adaptation of Kodály based-approach in this study. Concurrently, singing activities using solfege, Chinese children folk songs, games, and colored notations were applied in developing the pupils’ music reading skills. This action research was based on the model by Zuber-Skerritt where the cycle of plan, act, observe and reflect were used in the main cycles followed by the refined cycles. Creative teaching strategy to reduce bullying in schools

Abstract

This paper aims to identify the teacher's strategy in creating and developing creative learning to purposely reduce bullying behaviour in schools. To assess this objective, a quantitative data approach was employed to explore the data on bullying behaviour to illustrate the teacher's strategy and creativity in reducing bullying. Previous findings revealed that bullying is prevalent during school hours (69%), where the perpetrators consisted mainly of seniors (37%). This study serves as an empirical picture of the strategies employed by creative teachers to reduce bullying in schools by building synergy at the school environment, class setting and individual level. As for the school environment, it is necessary to strengthen the links between learning elements and teachers' teaching style. This paper consists of a collection of applied research techniques in writing using an easy method to expand essay writing through Hamburger Method. This research is aimed to gauge student’s ideas and later expand into a few paragraphs using proper organizational structure which includes introduction, body paragraph one, body paragraph two and body paragraph three followed by conclusion which is known as Hamburger Method. This technique can also be used for a single paragraph likewise topic sentence, supporting sentence one with examples, supporting sentence two with examples and supporting sentence three with examples followed by concluding sentence.
