Metacognitive strategies in solving quadratic equation word problems

Abstract

This research was done to determine students? level of metacognitive in answering quadratic equation word problems. Survey and one-group pretest-posttest experiment designs were used in this research, two phases were involved. The first phase was done to determine which group of students used metacognitive strategies frequently when answering word problems and to determine the level of metacognitive activities among the groups by using time line graphs. While the second phase was done to determine the effect of metacognitive training to the group of achievers who less frequently used metacognitive strategies and group of achievers who portrayed low level of metacognitive activities when answering quadratic equation word problems. Research sample consists of ninety form four students in one secondary school in Batang Padang. In the first phase, data were collected from answer sheets and metacognitive questionnaires. Abstract

This research was done to determine which group of students used metacognitive strategies frequently when answering word problems; and to observe metacognitive skills behavior among the groups by using time line graphs. This quantitative research was carried out in one secondary school in Batang Padang involving form four students. Students were divided into three groups, which are higher achievers; middle achievers and lower achievers based on their pretest scores and teacher reference. The instrument used in this research is a test that consists of word problems in quadratic equation. The metacognitive strategies used were assessed from the administered test while the researchers identified metacognitive skills behavior portrayed by students while answering the test by observation. Human and computation-based musical representation for gamelan music

Abstract

A public database containing representative data of karawitan traditional music is needed as a resource for researchers who study computer music and karawitan. To establish this database, a text-based pitch model for music representation that is both human and computer-based was first investigated. A new model of musical representation that can be read by humans and computers is proposed to support music and computer research on karawitan also known as gamelan music. The model is expected to serve as the initial effort to establish a public database of karawitan music representation data. The proposed model was inspired by Helmholtz Notation and Scientific Pitch Notation and well-established, text-based pitch representation systems. The model was developed not only for pitch number, high or low or middle pitch information (octave information), but for musical elements found in gamelan sheet music pieces that include pitch value and legato signs. Abstract

Penulisan artikel ini memperihalkan kreativiti pengarang sastra Indonesia merepresentasikan latar sistem sosial dan budaya yang beragam untuk menjadi persoalan yang menarik diangkat membina karakter lokal dalam karya prosa sastra Indonesia. Analisis tekstual telah digunakan untuk memperolehi dapatan yang membicarakan persoalan utama kepengarangan sastra Indonesia Hasan Al-Banna, Hidayat Banjar, Idris Pasaribu dan Maulana Syamsuri diangkat membina karakter lokal di Sumatera Utara. Dapatan terhadap nilai-nilai budaya lokal masyarakat Karo, identitaskemelayuan Deli dan Mandailing merupakan akar tunjang dilestarikan, dikembangkan, dan direvitalisasi dalam karya prosa sastra Indonesia di Sumatera Utara.
