A study of simple past tense error and its source in form two students written compositions

Abstract

The learning of English grammar, especially the tenses has been recognized as a problem area to ESL learners. Learners produce numerous errors in receptive and productive skills of the English Language. This study examined the categories, types and sources of simple past tense errors made by 30 form two students from Sekolah Menengah Raja Muda Musa, Teluk Intan, Perak. The rationale for this study was to help the researcher to extend knowledge about simple past tense error and its sources. The instruments were two sets of compositions. The errors have been classified under two categories, interlingual and intralingual. The findings of this study indicate that respondents produced three types of errors, namely misinformation, addition and omission. The most frequent were errors caused by intralingual interference. Abstract

Kajian ini bertujuan membangun dan menilai Modul Bioaction berorientasikan Model ASSURE dan digabungjalinkan dengan Model Inkuiri, IDEAL dan Model Konstruktivisme Needham Lima Fasa. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kuantitatif, melibatkan 60 orang pelajar Tingkatan Empat aliran sains di sebuah sekolah daerah Cameron Highlands. Modul Bioaction yang dibina mengandungi manual eksperimen pelajar, manual guru, borang senarai semak penilaian keupayaan pelajar mengendalikan aktiviti amali, dua set kertas soalan penilaian dan skema jawapan. Bagi menilai modul ini, sebanyak tiga eksperimen telah dipilih berdasarkan sukatan pelajaran Biologi Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia. Setiap eksperimen melibatkan lima elemen iaitu keupayaan merancang eksperimen, menjalankan eksperimen, mengumpul data, mentafsir data serta membuat kesimpulan, dan mengaplikasi eksperimen dengan topik pembelajaran. The interference of first language towards writing in English as second language

Abstract

This study was aimed to analyze and evaluate the extent of interference of Ll (Tamil) in L2 (English) ESL writing. The SLA Threshold model was employed based on the constituents of behaviorist and mentalist theories. The study analyzed the phenomena and the contributing variables as a result of the interference. The relationship between phenomena and contributing variables were also studied. Mixed method approaches with a concurrent triangulation design were used for this study. A number of 60 pre-service teachers in a teacher education institution in Ipoh were chosen using purposive sampling method as studied samples. Three research instruments were employed which are a questionnaire, a protocol interview and document analysis. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential analysis. Assessing the usability of personalised-multilingual aac 'MySuara' mobile application

Abstract

The 'MySuara' app is a personalised augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) mobile application designed for Malaysian special education classrooms, offering multilingual support and a unique dual-screen modelling feature to enhance teacher-student communication. Besides, it allows the customisation of symbol sets to meet individual student needs, providing a personalised solution for teachers and caregivers. This study aims to assess the usability of the 'MySuara' mobile app using a developed questionnaire, as usability is quantifiable and crucial for user satisfaction. Conducting such evaluations can unveil flaws in the system and reveal user demands, which is vital for successful app development. Self-administered behavior modification to reduce smartphone usage

Abstract

Habitual or undesirable behaviours are a common target for self-managed behaviour-modification programs. The current self-experiment used an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) reversal design to study the effects of the intervention on smartphone usage. The 56 days of study consisted of self-monitoring and differential reinforcement of other behaviours treatment. A visual Android application installed in the device allowed the observer to monitor and keep track of the treatment progress and outcomes and to ensure treatment integrity. Results provide the support that the overall treatment package was successful in decreasing the duration of smartphone usage. This study demonstrates that self-administered behaviour-modification techniques can be successfully designed and implemented to reduce undesirable behaviour with sufficient knowledge of behavioural principles. Abstract

Kajian ini adalah bertujuan unruk mengkaji keberkesanan aktiviti pembinaan herbarium dalam pembelajaran topik Kepelbagaian Tumbuhan bagi mata pelajaran Sains tingkatan 2. Populasi kajian terdiri daripada 160 orang pelajar tingkatan 2 Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Ringlet Cameron Highlands, negeri Pahang. Seramai 80 orang pelajar sebagai kumpulan eksperimen yang telah mengikuti aktiviti pembinaan herbarium dan 80 orang pelajar sebagai kumpulan kawalan yang telah mengikuti pembelajaran kaedah biasa dengan membuat folio bagi topik Kepelbagaian Tumbuhan telah dipilih secara persampelan bertujuan.
