The effectiveness of guided writing using individual pictures in a year three classroom

Abstract

Kajian ini merupakan usaha untuk meningkatkan kemahiran menulis di kalangan murid Tahun 3 di sekolah rendah. Kajian ini melibatkan penggunaan intervensi dalam bentuk modul penulisan kontekstual untuk mengkaji keberkesanan kaedah penulisan terbimbing dengan penggunaan gambar tersendiri terhadap kemahiran menulis murid. Reka bentuk kaedah campuran digunakan yang melibatkan reka bentuk kuasi eksperimen dan analisis kandungan untuk mengukur prestasi menulis dan kualiti ayat murid. Pra-ujian dan ujian pasca dianalisis secara kuantitatif menggunakan SPSS dan secara kualitatif dengan satu set rubrik danjumlah frekuensi. Authentic Learning Approach in Science Education

Abstract

In this paper, the integration of authentic learning approach in science education have been discussed based on Herrington’s Authentic Learning approach. The nine elements are authentic tasks, authentic activities, expert views, multiple perspectives, collaboration, coaching and scaffolding, reflection, articulation and authentic assessment. These elements are integrated in the Science education to deliver meaningful lessons. In particular, the author had been able to propose a sample lesson plan for Year 6 Science subject. It consists of authentic context, authentic assignments, easily accessible learning sources that are realistic and tangible and freedom for the students to express their views and interpretations. The sample lesson plan is a practical implementation based on the Nine Elements of Authentic Learning Approach by Herrington & Herrington (2006). Abstract

The paradigm shift from consumer to producer mindset to cultivate transversal competencies other than building a strong foundation in primary education is a major challenge for global educators and researchers. Therefore, as initial efforts, Malaysia has developed and strengthened the reasoning skill as one of the basic skills in primary education. The move to abolish examination by introducing classroom-based assessments has redirected the learning and teaching in the classrooms. The development of competency model for primary school teachers implementing authentic learning approach

Abstract

A competency model for primary school teachers implementing authentic learning approach was developed through this study. This study had identified and evaluated the effects of mediator variables and moderator variables on the study constructs. The research design is mixed method approach. In total there are five objectives to be achieved in this study. Constructs and research instruments were constructed based on a review of the literature on previous competency theories and models, the results of the analysis of focus group interviews and expert panel evaluation. The developed instrument was used for data collection from primary school teachers in Perak (n = 565) with a response rate of 52 %. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) statistical testing through IBM SPSS Amos software was used to analyse the main statistics of this study to obtain parameter estimates and model testing which in turn will produce a proposed model that meets the specified fit index.
