The Teaching of Thirukkural Based on HOTS Among The Students of Tamil Primary Schools in The State of Perak

This research is a study which is conducted under the Sultan Idris Education University’s University Research Grant. The purpose of this study is to measure the mastery of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) among the teacher of Tamil Primary Schools in the state of Perak and the mastery of questioning technique based on Bloom’s Taxonomy using HOTS in the teaching of Thirukkural. The approach of quantitative was employed to obtain the data of the research. 80 teachers were chosen as samples from four different schools in Perak to elicit information pertaining to the mastery of HOTS among educators. Through the grading which was conducted by referring to SPSS, the results of the research revealed that the mastery of HOTS among teachers in this category is average and weak from the eight criteria which were studied. The character of biology teaching practices: Pedagogical hiatuses and the implications for continued professional development

This study was conducted to characterise the Biology teaching practices in a teacher education institution so as to inform us the existing practices which could then be compared with the aspired practices, uncovering the pedagogical hiatuses. This study employed a form of implementation study using classroom observation. A total of three lessons drawn from a Biology course within the Bachelor of Education (Biology Major) by a lecturer in one Teacher Education Institution were observed over a one-semester period. A psychometrically-supported Observation Checklist comprising 50 items or indicators that spread across six principles was utilised in the observation whereby observers checked in terms of presence or absence of each indicator during the classroom observations. While humbly accepting scholarly opinions that hybridity is a global trend in cultural research, theory and criticism, and one of the most broadly utilized and reprimanded ideas in postcolonial theory, this research is a response to the already extant that western and non-western fusion is practicable. During cultural hybridization process, traditional components will not die out however will develop into a spectacular form. Tradition isn't something made stale or worn after some time, nonetheless develops throughout the years. Science teaching: perceptions, attitudes and instructional practices

This study investigates the perceptions, attitudes and instructional practices towards teaching science among secondary school Science teachers. Data was collected using questionnaires and underwent statistical analysis. 102 science teachers in Kuala Langat district were included in this study. Analysis revealed that the three constructs; perceptions, attitudes and instructional practice were at moderate level. In addition, Mann-Whitney analysis showed that there was no significant difference between the experienced group teachers with less experienced group teachers in terms of perceptions, attitudes and instructional practices. Finally, analysis Spearman’s rho revealed that there were low correlation between perceptions and attitudes, perceptions and instructional practices and moderate correlation between instructional practices and attitudes. Preservice teachers assessment knowledge: do teaching experiences make a difference?

This study aimed to statistically compare preservice teachers’ assessment knowledge in crafting assessment task and selecting assessment method in relation to their teaching experience. This study involved 397 preservice teachers’ who were final year undergraduate students in a local university. The instrument of data collection consisted of eight superitems test. Data collected was analysed by using statistical method (SPSS version 22.0). The result showed that preservice teachers for all categories of teaching experience performed better in the selecting assessment method than crafting assessment task. Relationship between student teachers achievement in Professional Education Courses and their achievement in Teaching Practices

Professional Education Course (PEC) and Teaching Practice (TP) are two main components in teacher education program. This paper discusses findings of a study to identify the relationship between students' achievement in PEC and their achievement in TP. Grades achieved by the students in PEC and their grades achieved in TP were used and analyzed with permission from the Academic Department of a selected university. The data of 1,888 students were from 28 programs conducted at the university. Spearman's rho correlation via SPSS version 23 was used for data analysis. There were five sub courses under PEC that were analyzed in this study. The analysis found that, only students’ achievement in three courses of PEC showed significant correlation with their achievement in TP with correlation indexes in a range of .046 < r < .088 at p ≤ .05. Knowledge of linguistic cues among malay ELF students and teachers practices in the teaching of reading skills

The objectives of this study were to investigate the reading ability of Malay students at primary and secondary schools, and teachers‟ practices in the teaching of reading skills. Miller‟s (1995) Reading Assessment Techniques, which comprised six tests, were used to test word and parsing identification miscues and reading comprehension. The subjects were 1989 students and 360 teachers from both rural and urban schools in Perak and Terengganu. Findings show that the majority of students were able to recognize linguistic cues at the word level. However, they had poor recognition of phrases and clauses, thus facing difficulties in processing sentences, especially complex sentences and main ideas in discourse (Ibrahim, Mohamed Nor, Abu, & Atan, 2007). Hence, the majority of students (Year 5, Form 1, 2 and 4) were unable to read textbooks provided by the Malaysian Ministry of Education because of higher readability levels (Carrell, 2001; Nation & Deweerdt, 2001). Exploring Mosstons Spectrum of Teaching Styles usage and perception among student teachers of Sultan Idris Education University

This study aimed to explore sports science student teacher’s (n =100), usage and perceptions of Mosston’s Spectrum of Teaching Styles. The study adopted a qualitative approach of document analyses to investigate the predominant styles used by the student teachers during their teaching practical session in schools. This research, too employed a survey to explore their perceptions about the different teaching styles. The finding revealed 46% student teachers’ lesson predominantly used style B (practice style), followed by 38% style A (command style) especially in teaching fitness topics in their practical teaching session. Findings indicated there were significant differences in perception of using 11 different teaching styles where F(10,1089) = 13.67, p< 0.05, indicated style B was the most perceived teaching style followed by style H (divergent production style) and style F (guided discovery style) among student teachers.
