An evaluation of teachers’ perception in implementing School-based Assessment
Che Md Ghazali Nor Hasnida,
This paper presents a theory-based evaluation of the School-based Assessment (SBA), an assessment system which is conducted by subject teachers in schools to assess students cognitive (intellect), affective (emotional and spiritual) and psychomotor (physical) aspects. The implementation of SBA is in line with the National Philosophy of Education and the Standards-based School Curriculum in Malaysia. A survey was employed within the theoretical framework of the CIPP Evaluation Model. Findings from the survey suggest that all 376 teachers are quite satisfied with the input received from the governments. Regarding process dimension of evaluation, the implementation goes well but could still be strengthened. And looking at the product dimension of evaluation when system is implemented, teachers are satisfied with the students’ attitude and knowledge but not really with the motivational level especially the students’ reading interest. The study thus provides some support for the effecti.....

An evaluation of the implementation of the school-based assessment system in Malaysia
Nor Hasnida Che Md Ghazali
The implementation of the school-based assessment (SBA) system is an effort in improving human capital development in a holistic manner and also to lessen the negative influences of exam-oriented education systems on students. The need to evaluate the new system is of critical importance as the SBA system is still in a relatively early stage of development. The research is conducted to evaluate the implementation of the SBA system in Malaysian schools by using Stufflebeam's CIPP (context-input-process-product) ModeL According to Stufflebeam, any programme could be evaluated from four dimensions of context, input, process and product. Applying the CIPP Model and supported by relevant learning theories - behaviourism, Piaget's learning theory, constructivism, multiple intelligence and brain research and the assessment models - formative model, the logic model and the SCAP (Social Constructivist Assessment Process) Model, this research examines the evaluation instrument in order to choose.....

Confirmatory factor analysis of the teaching strategy for HOTs and LOTs Inventory in the Malaysian context
Nor Hasnida Che Md Ghazali
Promoting students’ higher order thinking skills is now becoming more important in an education system. An effective teaching strategies are required to teach those skills to students. Hence, a valid, reliable and practical instrument is needed to evaluate teaching strategies used in promoting students’ higher order thinking skills (HOTs) and lower order thinking skills (LOTs). The aim of this study is to explore different factor structure of the teaching strategies scale by using the secondorder Confirmatory Factor Analysis. The instrument is adapted from an instrument developed by Gulistan (2016) to suit with the Islamic education teachers in the Malaysian context. 220 primary school teachers teaching Islamic education subject was selected randomly from one of the state in Malaysia. The content validity is assessed by a group of experts, and the construct validity is measured by Confirmatory Factor Analysis. The reliability of the instrument is measured by the alpha coefficient r.....

Validation of an instrument to measure the feedback conceptions scale
Nor Hasnida Che Md Ghazali
It is very important to check for validity and reliability of self-report scales or measures. This study aimed to determine the validity and reliability of an instrument which is adapted from Harris and Brown (2008) known as ‘Teachers' Conceptions of Feedback (TCoF) inventory’. The instrument consists of 37 items from 9 constructs namely irrelevance, improvement, accountability, encouragement and self-type, task, process, self-regulation, peer and self-assessment and timeliness. One hundred and eighty-five (N=185) undergraduate students who are also the student teachers had completed the questionnaire. Respondents used a six-point agreement rating scale coded as strongly disagree=1, mostly disagree=2, slightly agree=3, moderately agree=4, mostly agree=5 and strongly agree=6. The content was validated by three experts in the field of measurement and evaluation. Data analysis was completed using the Rasch measurement model. The findings revealed that most items fit the model as their.....

Development and validation of an instrument To measure the implementation of program Guru penyayang
Nor Hasnida Che Md Ghazali
A valid and reliable instrument is needed to assess the implementation of a program known as ‘Program Guru Penyayang’ in schools. The purpose of this study is to develop the instrument and validate it. The instrument is in the form of questionnaire distributed to a sample of 230 primary school teachers teaching Orang Asli students. The content validity is assessed by the experts and the construct validity is measured by Exploratory Factor Analysis. The reliability of the instrument is measured using internal consistence reliability, which is alpha coefficient reliability or Cronbach Alpha. Results of Exploratory Factor Analysis suggested that 23 items need to be removed due to their non-dimensionality as they have more or less equal loadings on several factors. Thus, the final draft of the instrument contains 46 items which is valid and reliable. It yielded high values of internal consistency as reflected by the Cronbach alpha values. Even though the validity and reliability of the.....

Erosion of Malaysian student morals: a survey of private schools
Nor Hasnida Che Md Ghazali
Noble morals are the catalyst for the progress and perfection of life, but bad morals are effective destroyers and pests that destroy humanity and the height of human life. The relationship between morality and the downfall of a country should not be taken lightly. Without careful monitoring, the generation of the country's heirs will fall into reprehensible moral conduct that will inhibit the aspiration to drive all the aspirations of national development. In the process of teaching and learning in schools in order to achieve the national education mission, the curriculum is a concept of transformation from various levels passed by leaving impact on learners in the forms of models, ideas and actions held through activities conducted in educational institutions. This quantitative study aims to understand the morals of Malaysian students who get an education in private schools in the Klang Valley as the curriculum adopted is different from the national curriculum. Keywords: Moral, Hum.....
