1 | 2021 Thesis | Experimental study on driving scenarios and driver behaviours in Malaysia by using machine learning techniques Garfan, Salem Abdullah Salem The increasing number in annual road fatalities has caused a major challenge in many
countries. Minimising fatalities and improving safety are the top priorities of different
countries. This study aimed to analyse driver behaviours in Malaysia and the impacts
of practising eco-driving to improve safety, reduce fuel consumption and green gas
emission by using smartphone sensors and OBD2 (ELM327) adapter based on event
thresholds and machine learning algorithms. In the experimental study, 30 drivers had
participated, which were 17 novice drivers (7 males and 10 females) and 13 experienced
drivers (8 males and 5 females). A Honda Civic 2019 car was used in the experiment.
A specific route was selected for all drivers, which consisted of two types of road
(highway and urban), with a total distance of 20.6 km. The analysis of driving behaviour
was based on threshold events and machine learning algorithms. This was to classify
the different driving scenarios. In the driver’s pro..... 2032 hits |
2 | 2024 Article | Evaluating agriculture 4.0 decision support systems based on hyperbolic fuzzy-weighted zero-inconsistency combined with combinative distance-based assessment Garfan, Salem Abdullah Agriculture 4.0 plays a crucial role in shaping sustainable cities and societies by revolutionizing urban food systems. By incorporating advanced technologies like precision farming, vertical gardening, and data analytics, Agriculture 4.0 improves local food production, reduces food transportation, and optimizes resource utilization. This paper introduces an innovative approach using Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) to assess Agriculture 4.0 Decision Support Systems (ADSS), contributing significantly to the selection of optimal systems that can drive sustainability in smart agriculture. The novelty of this research lies in developing a comprehensive evaluation framework that extends the hyperbolic fuzzy-weighted zero-inconsistency method for criteria weighting, combined with the combinative distance-based assessment method for benchmarking ADSS. The assessment matrix evaluates 13 ADSS across eight key criteria, including “accessibility,” “re-planning,” “expert knowledge,..... 70 hits |

4 | 2024 Article | Sensor-based authentication in smartphone: A systematic review Garfan, Salem Abdullah Salem With the widespread usage of smartphones, users not just using their smartphone for calls and messaging only, but they are using it for a variety of purposes such as banking transactions, e-mailing, chatting, online shopping, video conferencing, health monitoring, and many more. Most of these activities store personal and sensitive data of the user on the device, reaching this confidential information by unauthorized person may cause huge losses and bad consequences. Therefore, securing the smartphone's accessibility from unauthorized people became an extremely essential. With the advanced development in the area of sensor-based smartphone authentication methods, different methods were developed to be easily used by users through specific criteria. However, many aspects haven't been discovered yet in the area of sensor-based smartphone authentication methods. On the basis of that, this study aims to review the area of sensor-based smartphone authentication methods systematically to pro..... 82 hits |
5 | 2024 Article | Can smartphones serve as an instrument for driver behavior of intelligent transportation systems research? A systematic review: Challenges, motivations, and recommendations Garfan, Salem Abdullah Salem The increasing number of road accidents is a major issue in many countries. Studying drivers’ behaviour is essential to identify the key factors of these accidents. As improving sustainability can be reached by improving driving behaviour, this study aimed to review and thoroughly analyse current driver behaviour literature that focuses on smartphones and attempted to provide an understanding of various contextual fields in published studies through different open challenges encountered and recommendations to enhance this vital area. All articles about driver behaviour with the scope of using smartphone were searched systematically in four main databases, namely, IEEE Xplore, ScienceDirect, Scopus and Web of Science, from 2013 to 2023. The final set of 207 articles matched our inclusion and exclusion criteria. The basic characteristics of this emerging field are identified from the aspects of motivations, open challenges that impede the technology's utility, authors’ recommendation..... 80 hits |
6 | 2024 Article | Exploring the integration of multi criteria decision analysis in the clean energy biodiesels applications: A systematic review and gap analysis Garfan, Salem Abdullah Salem Biodiesel has gained tremendous attention from researchers due to its environmentally friendly and renewable fuel manufactured domestically from vegetable oils or animal fats. Multiple factors, including emission and fuel efficiency, measure the performance of biodiesel. These characteristics make the process of evaluation and benchmarking a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem. This research attempts to survey the literature for multi-criteria decision-making applications on biodiesel. This systematic review was carried out on four scientific databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, IEEE Xplore, and WoS. The collected articles were summarized and mapped into a coherent taxonomy, while the main challenges, motivations, and recommendations were collected and categorized for better understanding and finding out essential characteristics. The final set of included articles was 33, and they were categorized into six different categories. Most articles (n=15/33) investigated the evaluatio..... 64 hits |
