| 1 | 2021 Article | Distractor efficiency of an intermediate English proficiency course final examination paper Kamarul Ariffin Ahmad Language proficiency tests have adopted various types of items which include multiple-choice questions (MCQ). Designing MCQ needs a longer time to be completed despite being perceived as easy to administer and mark. After the administration and marking process are completed, the test needs to be analysed to determine the index of facility, discrimination power and distractor efficiency. This study aimed to scrutinise those indices and determine if there is an association between the indices with the functionality of the distractors in an intermediate English Proficiency course final examination paper. With the use of QUEST software, the data were computed to get the difficulty and discrimination indices, and distractor efficiency.The finding showed that there is no clear association between facility and discrimination indices with the distractor efficiency. | 2 | 2024 Thesis | Developing the entrance examination for Diploma in English programme Kamarul Ariffin Ahmad This research aimed to develop an entrance examination for Diploma in English (DIE) programme in accordance with the English language syllabus with the use of Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). In assessment, instruments must be pitched to the correct CEFR level which motivated the development of a new instrument. With the evidence showing lack of empirical evidence, this study developed two instruments with 30 multiple-choice items each that included reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary based on CEFR to facilitate the selection of the candidates. An instrument development model based on Gregory and Cohen- Swerdlik_s models were adapted and used. Snowball sampling technique was utilised to recruit 11 CEFR experts whereby purposive sampling technique was used to select 157 samples who were among the first-year diploma students who fulfilled the requirements.
