1 | 2019 article | The effectiveness of bar model fraction kit in solving higher order thinking skills mathematics word problems Lavina Nair Madawan Nair This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Bar Model Fraction Kit based on students' achievement in answering Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) word problems. A total of 48 Year 5 students from Batang Padang District, Perak were involved in a quasi-experiment using pre-test and post-test. The students were divided into a control group and a treatment group. The control group(n=23) uses the teaching and learning process (TnL) with the conventional method, while the treatment group (n=25) runs the TnL using the Bar Model Fraction Kit. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney Test. The results indicated that during post-test, students who used Bar Model Fraction Kit showed significant improvement in their HOTS level (p=0.000). In conclusion, the students who undergone TnL using Bar Model Fraction Kit performed better than the students in the conventional group. Bar Model Fraction Kit has effectively improved the performance of students in answering HOTS word problems involving a..... 1149 hits |
2 | 2019 article | The development of Bar Model Fraction Kit in solving higher order thinking skills mathematics word problems Lavina Nair Madawan Nair The purpose of this study is to develop and validate the Bar Model Fraction Kit. To enhance the validity of this instrument, four experts had reviewed the instrument. The Cohen kappa value is 0.80. This indicates a “Good” extent of agreement. There were 15 students involved in the pilot test. The students used the Bar Model Fraction Kit to answer the test items. From the analysis, it was found that the Cronbach alpha coefficient value is 0.765. This shows that the Bar Model Fraction Kit has acceptable reliability

3 | 2021 thesis | Development and the effectiveness of using fraction slider in solving higher order thinking skills word problems Lavina Nair Madawan Nair This study aims to develop and determine the effectiveness of the Fraction Slider in improving the
performance of Year 5 students in solving Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) addition and
subtraction of fraction word problems. This study also aims to determine the effective problem
solving strategy using the Fraction Slider. This study employed the design and development
research (DDR) with a combination of quantitative and qualitative approach. In this study, DDR
is limited to two phases; (1) Design and Development and (2) Evaluation. The first phase involved
design and development of Fraction Slider using ADDIE Model. Three panel of experts were involved
to validate the Fraction Slider using the expert opinion questionnaire. The percentage of experts’
agreement obtained was 87.9%. For the aspect of reliability, the Fraction Slider was used in
teaching and learning for 27 students. Analysis of Cronbach alpha coefficient was calculated..... 874 hits |
