The contribution of mLearning to study of local culture in the Malaysian university context
Shamsul Arrieya Ariffin
This thesis is concerned with the impact of mobile learning (mLearning) on the study of local culture at Malaysian universities. For convenience, the term Local Cultural Studies (LCS) is given to Humanities subjects related to the teaching and learning of Malay culture, for example: Local History, Local Culture and National Heritage, Malay Wood Craft, Malay Drum, Cooking, Batik Textile, Ceramic, and Local Drama. These subjects are not as popular as Science and Engineering and are often referred to as 'dying traditional knowledge' with an uncertain future. They have a lesser degree of significance in modem Malaysian society in achieving a 'developed country' status. One motivation for introducing mLearning into LCS subjects is to make them more interesting: the learning activities and the subjects should appear more modem by linking them to the latest technology. The fact that all students own mobile phones in Malaysian universities creates an opportunity to use mLearning for the benefi.....

Needs and potentials for studying local Malaysian culture through mobile learning
Shamsul Arrieya Ariffin
Mobile learning is an emerging approach in Asian countries, particularly in the local context, such as the Malaysian universities. This research adds the perspectives of users’ experiences to the mobile learning regarding potentials in the study of local culture. The motivation for this research is the limited users’ voices – students for mobile learning – particularly, their own experiences in learning local cultural studies and the associated potentials. The aim of this study is to investigate if user experience has any mobile learning potentials to assist users in studying local culture. To find in-depth meaning, this research garnered the data from focus group discussions with students. The data were then analyzed using thematic analysis. This research indicates the students’ interest in mobile learning demonstrated on the students’ perspectives: the desired mobile applications paradigm and usability design concerns..

Preliminary insights on investigating existing mobile ethics through mobile learning for a local context
Shamsul Arrieya Ariffin
With the advancement of technology, considerable effort has been made to implement the utilization of mobile technology in learning, especially in STEM related subjects. However, this raises another issue in that the question of ethics when using these kinds of technology has not been addressed for the local context. Based on the current research, participants are concerned about the ethics of mobile technology. Thus, this research is conducted to investigate and identify the mobile ethics of students through mobile learning in a local context. The methodology used in this research is largely qualitative with students from a local university and analysed using thematic analysis. The preliminary findings shed light on the issue of ethics in mobile learning for the local context.  ..

Bibliometric analysis of mobile learning user experience industrial revolution 5.0
Shamsul Arrieya Ariffin
User experience or usability is under research, particularly in mobile learning in the era of industrial revolution (IR) 5.0. This article discusses incorporating sophisticated mobile technologies such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and artificial intelligence (AI) into the user experience in educational settings. Therefore, this paper investigates the relatively new revolutionary potential of mobile learning user experience in the context of the IR 5.0, where the digital and technology spheres meet for better user experiences, particularly for students in learning. The research explores novel meta-mobile technology approaches by examining concrete cases from 2012, analyzing their impact, and improving the user experience. Likewise, this article elucidates the need for mobile learning user experience research based on bibliometric analysis. _ 2024, Institute of Advanced Engineering and Science. All rights reserved...

Mobile tourism research and practices: A comprehensive bibliometric exploration and future study direction
Shamsul Arrieya Ariffin
Even though mobile tourism analysis is developing, there is still a lack of literature regarding its formation patterns which makes the picture of its evolution incomplete. The evaluation in this study was carried out in general by emphasizing the evolution of exploratory analysis on the theme of "mobile tourism". This article aims to determine the increasing development of mobile tourism in terms of the number of publications, journals, authors, and the most relevant citations. Then analyze the itinerant tourism distribution map based on grouping, with merging, joint citation, collaboration network analysis, and joint word assessment, and interpret the conceptual structure of the country's co-occurrence and collaboration network regarding its visual representation. The method used is a descriptive approach through bibliometric analysis. An in-depth search of the Scopus database and RStudio software was conducted, screening, analyzing, and interpreting 752 relevant articles from 2014 t.....

Exploring determinants of M-government services for the Ministry of Housing: A study from the citizens’ perspective in Oman
Shamsul Arrieya Ariffin
The Sultanate of Oman has implemented M-government to improve service delivery. It provides the Ministry of Housing with unique opportunities for real-time and customised access to government information and services. However, despite the Oman Government’s best efforts, low citizen acceptance of M-government services is a common problem in Arab countries. Therefore, to increase the adoption rate, this paper investigates the factors influencing citizens’ intentions to adopt and use M-government programs for the Ministry of Housing. The technology acceptance model (TAM) was utilised for this research. In addition, three considerations were added to the equation: experience, confidence, and time. Data was gathered, and 428 relevant responses were included in the final survey. All of the proposed factors in our TAM model were statistically important in affecting citizens’ intention to embrace and use M-government services for the Ministry of Housing, according to the descriptive rese.....
