Art discourse in modern fine arts in Surabaya: An analytical historical research
Muchammad Bayu Tejo Sampurno
This research aims to understand the art discourse that is the foundation for developing modern fine arts in Surabaya. Art discourse represents the fundamental ideas behind the creation of art-works, which are developed and dialectically discussed within the context of the art ecosystem in Surabaya. The research design is based on an analytical, historical research method with a socio-historical approach. The findings reveal the existence of continuity and change in art discourse from the Aksera generation (Academy of Fine Arts Surabaya) in the 1970s to the post-Aksera generations, namely the 1980s and 1990s generations. Three bases of art discourse emerged as the core expressions of aesthetics in modern fine arts in Surabaya during the 1970s to 1990s: 1. The discourse of nationalism (identity) underlies the art discourse of the Aksera generation; 2. The discourse of the market (commodification of art) becomes the main concern of the 1980s gen-eration; 3. The social-political discourse.....

Critics of the tendency of art education for autistic children in Indonesia
Sampurno, Muchammad Bayu Tejo
This paper parses the problem that art education for autistic children in Indonesia is only a compliment. Furthermore, it invites us to explore the nature and essence of art education as a solution again. Art education, which offers the concept of play, actually becomes "mathematical" learning and removes the essence of creative freedom from art education itself. The teacher does not understand the nature and essence of art education, which causes a shift towards the objectification of autistic children as students. This is due to the fact that the paradigm of art education for children with autism in Indonesia is still a discourse. Thus, the intimacy between teacher and student is no longer visible. Therefore, this paper argues about the need to take specific steps towards understanding art education by art teachers, prospective art teacher-students, and parents. It aims to restore the essence and essence of fine arts education as a medium of expression that can help children with aut.....

The Impact of Interactive Acting Learning as an Alternative to Digital Acting Teaching in Malaysian Art School: A Comprehensive Review
Muhammad Faisal Ahmad, Muchammad Bayu Tejo Sampurno, Mardiana Ismail, Nor Shuradi Haji Nor Hashim
The surge in online learning has transformed education, impacting how acting is taught in Malaysian Art Schools. To ensure continual learning progress, diverse instructional strategies are employed, but the pandemic has disrupted traditional studio and in-the-field acting training. This study addresses the challenge of adapting fundamental acting education for lower secondary students at a Malaysian Art School in the context of remote learning. The conventional hands-on, in-person approach to teaching acting conflicts with the current demand for technology-infused learning, hindering cognitive growth. The absence of tailored Alternative Teaching Aids (ABM) for digital online learning further compounds the issue, emphasizing the need for a more engaging teaching method aligned with the school's curriculum. This project aims to evaluate the impact of interactive learning on the digital acting teaching approach within the existing syllabus. It seeks to provide teachers and basic theatre a.....

Digital Interactions and Audience Dynamics Analyzing YouTube's Role in Indonesian Performance Arts
Muchammad Bayu Tejo Sampurno
This study draws on the framework of mediatization to analyze how YouTube, as a digital entity, facilitates and transforms audience relations and participation in performances. It employs a literature review to explore the intricate dynamics of audience interaction and performative presence on YouTube within the Indonesian context. The findings from engagement metrics powerfully suggest interaction that exceeds traditional audience participation, signaling a shift towards more immersive and interactive consumption of performance arts. The results underline a shift in audience roles from passive receivers to active participants empowered by the mediatization process with YouTube. This transformation strongly impacts cultural production as more artists cater to content that reaches their digital audience. Digital platforms, including YouTube, can reshape cultural norms and performance practices, especially within the panorama of global and local cultural dynamics. © 2024 Chulalongkorn U.....
