The objectives of this study are: (i) to gather information with regard to current policies and practices pertaining to recognition and accreditation systems of the higher education sector, with specific reference to Malaysia and China (ii) to review the existing policy between accreditation and recognition agencies/ providers and (iii) to recommend best practices, guidelines and strategies for practical implementation in Malaysia. Kemasukan pelajar bagi program ini ditapis dengan syarat-syarat yang telah ditetapkan. Salah satu kriteria ialah asas akademik bagi subjek berkaitan dengan program yang dipohon oleh pelajar. Sejauh mana prasyarat kemasukan mempengaruhi pencapaian tidak dapat dijelaskan. Justru kajian ini cuba menentukan samna ada prasyarat mempunyai pengaruh ke atas pencapaian pelajar. Kajian ini membataskan kepada pengaruh asas matematik dan ekonomi ke atas pencapaian salah satu subjek major program, iaitu Prinsip Ekonomi. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa terdapat perbezaan signifikan antara saluran kemasukan dengan purata pencapaian pelajar bagi subjek yang dikaji. Jalil Norasibah, Pencapaian mata pelajaran Ekonomi Asas di Negeri Perak menunjukkan pola yang turun naik sejak sedekad yang lepas. Tidak banyak perbezaan dari segi kuantiti antara bandar dan luar bandar tetapi kualiti menunjukkan bahawa pelajar di bandar mencatat keputusan yang lebih baik daripada kawasan bandar. Hasil daripada kajian ini mendapati bahawa selain daripada perbezaan faktor sosioekonomi antara kumpulan bandar dan luar bandar, latar belakang akademik pelajar yang lebih rendah adalah salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi perbezaan kualiti pencapaian. 8 | 2019 article | Binary logistic regression analysis of instructional leadership factors affecting English language literacy in Primary Schools Ramlee bin Ismail This paper discusses the factors contributing to student achievement in English language literacy in primary schools within Sibu division, Sarawak, Malaysia. The study involved 694 teachers who taught in 105 lower primary schools. Binary logistic regression was applied to predict the instructional leadership’s influence on student achievement in literacy. The findings revealed that one dimension of instructional leadership - supervising and evaluating instruction - emerged as strong predictors of literacy. The result indicated that schools were more than 17 times more likely to achieve 100% literacy rate when the instruction processes were supervised and evaluated by the headmasters. Supervision and evaluation of instruction had a positive influence on students’ achievement for English language literacy, hence making this a possible course of action for school heads. 10 | 2019 article | Economic literacy: does it matter for policy understanding? Ramlee Ismail The quality of human capital is indispensable for economic growth and sustainability. The developed nations have shown evidence of a positive relationship between education and economic development. In all respects, a better understanding of economics among citizens has led to more efficiency in implementing economic policies. In this paper, we explore a possible relationship between economic literacy and policy understanding. Policy knowledge, interest and explanation are measured through policy understanding. This study used the students’ teachers as a sample and found that economic literacy was below 50 per cent. Meanwhile, the level of policy understanding was moderate. Interestingly, our findings showed that economic literacy is not strongly associated with economic policy understanding. Policy interest appeared as an important element for policy understanding among the sample.
