Does religiosity matter in the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0?

Abstract

Since the hype of Industrial Revolution 4.0 that was brought up by Klaus Schwab in 2016, once again the question of values and beliefs becomes a debate. If religiosity is sidelined in our efforts to automate services and let machines do the jobs of human, then human will truly be substituted by artificial intelligence (AI). Does religiosity matter and can it play a role in the new industry revolution? This study will explore the impact of religiosity towards Muslim officers’ work behaviour in the higher learning institutions in Malaysia. Through in-depth interviews and thematic analysis, this study found that religiosity has an impact on the respondents’ work behaviour to a certain degree. Five themes emerged from the thematic analysis: religiosity, personality, competency, environment, and leadership. Abstract

Kuantiti Pesanan Ekonomi (EOQ) merupakan salah satu konsep yang sukar difahami oleh kebanyakan pelajar kerana belum terdedah dengan persekitaran kerja. Artikel ini membincangkan teknik pengajaran EOQ dengan menggunakan kaedah pembelajaran pengalaman untuk meningkatkan pemahaman pelajar melalui modul O-Pizza sebagai analogi. Analogi ini dipilih kerana ianya lebih dekat dan dikenali oleh pelajar. Di samping itu, satu analisa data ringkas menggunakan Ujian U Mann-Whitney telah dijalankan untuk membandingkan keputusan peperiksaan, khususnya bagi soalan berkaitan EOQ. Peserta kajian terdiri daripada para pelajar daripada dua kumpulan; satu kumpulan diajar menggunakan O-Pizza, manakala satu lagi menggunakan kaedah pengajaran biasa. Keputusan analisa data menunjukkan bahawa sampel kumpulan yang menggunakan O-Pizza mendapat min markah yang lebih tinggi berbanding kumpulan yang menggunakan kaedah biasa. Abstract

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti hubungan antara religiositi, personaliti dan tingkah laku kerja Muslim dalam kalangan pentadbir universiti-universiti awam di Lembah Klang. Hasil kajian ini meninjau sejauhmana religiositi berperanan sebagai faktor perantara di antara personaliti dan tingkah laku kerja Muslim. Responden terdiri daripada 228 orang pentadbir dari lima buah universiti awam di Lembah Klang. Sebuah instrumen bagi mengukur tingkah laku kerja Muslim dibina untuk mendapatkan data tingkah laku kerja responden, manakala NEO Five-Factor Inventory (FFI) dan Muslim Religiosity-Personality Inventory (MRPIdigunakan untuk mengukur personaliti dan religiositi responden. Teori Tret dan Teori Religiositi Muslim dijadikan asas untuk mengkaji pembolehubah-pembolehubah berkaitan. Challenges of talent development implementation among non-academician staff in a Malaysian higher learning institution

Abstract

While research and implementation on the part of the industry has proven that the development of the right talent can improve productivity and provide competitive advantage, the higher education institution is still slow to act and seize the opportunity. Public universities in Malaysia are no exception in this regard and has only begun to design a more systematic talent development plan recently although the relevant circulars have been issued by the government since 2006. The case study aims to identify the problems that arise in the planning and implementation of talent development strategies at one of the public university, as well as highlighting recommendations to enable it to compete with other higher education institutions. Integrating religious values in entrepreneurship activities among Malaysian undergraduates students

Abstract

This study aimed to explore how religious values are integrated into entrepreneurial activities among students in Public Higher Education Institutions (PHEI) to develop holistic and entrepreneurial students in Malaysia. The study was conducted at three public higher education institutions in the state of silver. Respondents consist of staff and students involved in entrepreneurship programs or activities. Quantitative and qualitative approaches are used to gain a more accurate picture of the integration of religious values and entrepreneurial activities. Descriptive analysis is used to analyze quantitative data, while thematic analysis is for qualitative data. The results showed that there were no significant differences in the level of religious and moral values in student entrepreneurship activities. The importance of industrial relations climate has not been given due emphasis on the study of counterproductive work behavior. This variable in facts has great influence to synergize and harmonize the working environment in most of the organizations in today’s world. Hence, the purpose of this study is to examine the role of industrial relations climate as moderating variable between the workplace spirituality and counterproductive work behavior. Shipping management simulation game for teaching and learning in higher education: a quasi-experimental study

Purpose – This study examines the effects of a simulation board game for teaching and learning shipping management in higher education. A framework of comprehensive shipping operations is developed according to the syllabus of the Shipping Management course at Universiti Utara Malaysia. The course core content in the game covers two main services—liner services and tramp services in the shipping industry. Methodology – A quasi-experimental research design was adopted to measure the effectiveness of the board game in giving students some understanding about shipping operations. Data were gathered from a sample of 73 undergraduate students enrolled in a Shipping Management course, using a non-equivalent control group design. Literasi Geografi aras rendah dalam kalangan mahasiswa geografi Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI)

Abstract

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan tahap literasi geografi aras rendah mahasiswa pendidikan geografi di Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI). Bagi mencapai tujuan tersebut, kajian ini menggunakan reka bentuk kajian tinjauan dan ujian literasi geografi aras rendah. Data yang dikumpul dianalisis dengan menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan analisis regrasi. Dapatan kajian ini menunjukkan literasi geografi aras rendah dalam kalangan mahasiswa pendidikan geografi di UPSI adalah berada di tahap yang sederhana (51.74%). Dapatan daripada analisis regrasi pula menunjukkan bahawa pembolehubah X7 iaitu kekerapan membaca buku mempunyai hubungan yang positif dan signifikan dengan tahap literasi geografi dalam kalangan responden. Buktinya, bagi setiap 0.137 kali peningkatan kekerapan membaca buku dalam setahun menentukan tahap literasi geografi dalam kalangan responden.
