Abstract

Abstract
This study aimed to develop and validate an inventory that measures the whole range of basic and integrated science process skills as stipulated in the Malaysian science curricula and that is suitable for Malaysian lower secondary school students. The validated inventory was subsequently utilised to determine the differential acquisition of science process skills by gender, location, and ethnicity. In the instrument development phase which involves item generation and field testing, a reliable 60-item Malaysian-Based Basic and Integrated Science Process Skills Inventory (MB-BISPSI) that has a KR-20 reliability of 0.88, difficulty indices of items that range between 0.25-0.75 and discrimination indices which are above 0.4 was produced. In the main causal-comparative study using a sample of 1021 Form 2 students (548 girls and 473 boys) from seven (four rural and three interior) out of the eight secondary schools in Kapit Division, Sarawak, the findings indicate that the students achieved.....

Abstract
Science educators have strongly recommended that paper-and-pencil group testing format be used to measure process skills competency, which can be administered efficiently and objectively without requiring expensive resources. This paper reports the use of an authordeveloped psychometrically-supported Malaysian-Based Basic and Integrated Science Process Skills Inventory (MB-BISPSI) to gauge the acquisition of science process skills amongst 1021 Form 2 students (548 girls and 473 boys) from seven (four rural and three interior) secondary schools in Kapit Division, Sarawak, exploring the interaction effects of gender, ethnicity, and school location. The findings indicated that the students achieved a mastery level which fell short of the two-third benchmark for the overall science process skills, basic and integrated science process skills, and also for each of the specific 12 science process skills. Additionally, gender-ethnicity interaction effect was found to be statistically significa.....

Abstract
Using self-instructional modules could be an alternative approach and make significant contributions to teaching and learning. Module is a planned series of learning activities designed carefully to assist the learners to accomplish certain specific objectives based on individual differences, interest and capability on learning. An attempt to develop and implement a modular approach on teaching thinking skills was made in the secondary school. This paper will discuss various components of this modular approach by referring to Meyer Model. Fleiss’s Kappa was used to determine the degree to which consensus agreement ratings vary from the rate expected by chance, with values greater than .60 Indicating substantial non-chance agreement. Fleiss’s Kappa for the inter-rater reliability score was κ = .6357, S.E. = .0990, 95% C.I. = .4416 to .8298, which can be taken to represent constant agreement among three raters for the instrument “Rating scale for the qualities of a module”. The .....

Abstract
Climate change has been held responsible for a number of environmental changes currently taking place in the world. Water resource is one of the aspects of the environment that are showing signs of the detrimental effects of climate change. In Malaysia, water resource is always viewed as something which can be obtained easily. The aim of the study was to examine the water crisis in the state of Selangor in February and March 2014. The methodology employed was participant-c bservation technique and secondary data analysis. The finding was that In February and March 2014, many parts of Peninsular Malaysia experienced hot and dry weather. The state of Selangor bore the hardest brunt of this dry spell. The extended period of this dry spell caused lowering of water levels in most rivers resulting in the dipping of dam levels. Since the water supply system of the state depends wholly on surface water, the decrease in dam levels resulted in decreased volume of raw water that could be treated .....

Abstract
Poverty is perceived as something unending in most poor and developing countries and it still occurs in areas including which have become tourist attraction centres. Tourism is an economic sector that is increasingly growing in importance to most poor and developing countries especially in rural areas and in the interior. Tourism activities have the ability to stimulate regional development rapidly which in turn benefits the locals. However, there is also a situation whereby its development is not equally beneficial to the government, investors and locals despite the rapidly developing tourism activities in that area. Pro Poor Tourism (PPT) is a mechanism that is able to benefit the poor at tourism centres; several strategies and approaches were identified as capable of increasing the cooperative bonding between the government, private sectors and local population as well as providing benefits to all three parties without ignoring the locals in the area. This study aims to present the .....

Abstract
The study aims to identify attributes and characteristics of visual aesthetics in order to establish a set of guiding principles of visceral level player-centric emotional design for digital games. This study is important for graphic designers in the field of game design as it may resolve the issue of commercial failure encountered by game designers in the creative industry, particularly on matters related to visual aesthetics. To achieve the research aim, a mixed methods research design was selected, incorporating two phases of research, i.e. the exploratory phase and the confirmatory phase. The exploratory phase involved a qualitative approach to explore phenomena associated to visual aesthetics through semi structured interviews, conducted with five prominent game practitioners. The findings of exploratory phase were used to direct the development of questionnaire survey in the confirmatory phase. A total of 100 graphic design students from four Malaysia public universities took par.....
