| 2012 article | Effects of determinants for computer use among teachers in Malaysia Kung Teck Wong, Swee Pauline Choo Goh, Osman Rosma, This study seeks to identify effects of determinants for computers use among teachers in Malaysia. In Malaysia, there is widespread recognition that computer can play a powerful role in supplementing and complimenting the process of teacher’s teaching and learning. Given current recognition of the value of computer integration, as well as the investment costs that technologies represent for schools, this study attempted to develop a model which demonstrates the variables that affect computer use among teachers and which also explain its interactions. The proposed research model is based on previous models of technology acceptance. Three variables (computer teaching efficacy, computer attitude and learning outcomes) were selected to build a model for this study. Methodologically, Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was used as the main technique for data analysis. The findings support the notion that computer attitudes, computer teaching efficacy and learning outcomes have effects on ..... 3313 hits |
| 2012 article | Student-teachers’ approaches to learning, academic performance and teaching efficacy Choo Pauline Goh Swee, Teck Wong Kung, Osman Rosma, Purpose - It is argued that the approaches to learning of students undergoing teacher training are likely to be related to their teaching and learning environment, especially as they move from a more regimented, structured learning environment in school to a tertiary learning environment that encourages more independent thinking and perhaps questions ideas. Therefore, this investigation has an overall goal to use the unique approaches to learning (surface and deep approaches) of students in a teacher preparation program to address the needs of this particular group of students during their teacher education. The study examines the associations between scores on student-teachers’ approaches to learning, their academic performance and teaching efficacy. Methodology – The approach to learning instrument used was the Bahasa Melayu R-SPQ-2F and the teaching efficacy was collected through the Bahasa Melayu Teachers’ Sense of Efficacy Scale (TSES). The sample for this study was a total ..... 2800 hits |
| 2013 article | The Computer Use Intention (CUI) scale in education development, validity and reliability studies Kung Teck Wong, Mokhsein Siti Eshah, Swee Pauline, Choo Goh, Hanafi Hafizul, The main aim of this research was to develop an instrument to examine the intention of computer use among student teachers and provide an initial psychometric evaluation of the Computer Use Intention (CUI) scale among student teachers. The process of item generation for the CUI scale was carried out through the sequential mixed method approach. A total of 177 student teachers from a teacher education participated in this study. Based on the exploratory factor analysis (EFA) results, it yielded a four-factorial with 12 items in the CUI scale. The researchers then carried out a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to assess its factorial validity and reliability. Based on the findings, the CUI scale reached the minimum thresholds for acceptable scale. Convergent validity and discriminant validity of the CUI scale shows satisfactory validity and good internal consistency for all 12-item of CUI scale... 3199 hits |
| 2014 article | Discerning beginning teachers’ conceptions of competence through a phenomenographic investigation Swee Pauline Choo Goh, Kung Teck Wong, The research reported here investigates variation in beginning teachers‟ early experiences of their own teaching competency. A phenomenographic research approach was used to show the qualitatively different ways teacher competence was understood amongst beginning teachers in Malaysia. Phenomenographic interviews were conducted with 18 beginning teachers who had started full time teaching for between 1-3 years. Analysis revealed that beginning teachers „saw‟, „understood‟ the conceptions of competency in five different ways: i) the ability to manage classroom and student behavior, ii) a strong knowledge of the subject content, iii) the ability to reach out for assistance and support, iv) understanding the students they teach, and v) possessing values of professionalism. The relationships between these different ways are represented diagrammatically. This investigation gives an insider‟s perspective a strong voice of what constitutes teacher competence, as well as illustrates..... 2358 hits |

| 2019 article | Preschool teachers perspectives on using english language to teach Goh, Pauline Swee-Choo In the Malaysian National Preschool Standards-based Curriculum context, preschool teachers are being asked to use English as a medium of instruction for part of their teaching activities. However, there have been criticisms that low English language proficiencies among these teachers may have hindered their ability to provide meaningful educational experiences for the children in their care. Yet, little is understood about the language proficiency of these teachers in their own context. An explanatory mixed methods design has been used in the present study with data collected in two phases. In the quantitative phase, a survey is used to investigate 204 preschool teachers’ current levels of English proficiency, the levels they think necessary for using it effectively, and the gap between the two levels. The qualitative phase uses semi-structured interviews with 12 preschool teachers. The preschool teachers believe that high or advanced language proficiency would be needed for its effe..... 1025 hits |
| 2021 article | Factors Influencing Malaysian Preschool Teachers’ Use of the English Language as a Medium of Instruction Pauline Swee Choo Goh This study investigated Malaysian preschool teachers’ self-efficacy and attitudes toward the use of the English language as a medium of instruction (EMI) and proposed a model of how different variables were related to their use of English in the classrooms. In order to obtain a broad picture of the nature and scope of preschool teachers’ use of EMI, a survey study was undertaken. The research instrument was a questionnaire that was distributed to randomly-selected preschool teachers throughout Malaysia. The process of modeling was based on the empirical data and a theoretical model that was constructed on the basis of the two theoretical aspects, that is self-efficacy and attitudes-behavior relation. The theoretical model served as a bridge between the abstractions from theory and the development of the model. The model suggested that strong self-efficacy influenced preschool teachers’ use of English to teach. In addition, the model also indicated that those preschool teachers wi..... 914 hits |
| 2021 article | E-readiness measurement tool: scale development and validation in a Malaysian higher educational context Goh, Pauline Swee Choo Increasing complexity towards harnessing the power of ICT on all levels has created uncertainty about higher educational technological capabilities and adequate strategies to develop e-readiness. In this study, an empirically grounded higher education e-readiness questionnaire in the domain of higher education was developed and validated. Exploratory factor analysis (n =120) followed by confirmatory factor analysis (n =336) was done which was presented in two forms; covariance model and the structural model. The covariance model showed that the 5 indicators (?Innovativeness?, ?Infrastructure?, ?Collaboration?, ?Learning flexibility?, ?Student experience?) and assigned 24 items were important e-readiness dimensions from the learners? point of view. The structural models validated the previously extracted factors along with their indicators. As a practical tool, the e-readiness tool could assist institutions towards identifying issues that contribute towards e-readiness thereby for..... 789 hits |
