Hexavalent chromium reduction by Acinetobacter Haemolyticus using agricultural waste

Abstract

The high cost of culture growth medium is one of the problems faced in the scaling-up of biological processes involved in wastewater treatment. This makes it imperative to find a useful, cheap and easily available alternative source for culture growth medium. The possibility of using sugarcane bagasse (SCB), solid pineapple waste (SPW) and soybean meal (SBM) as alternative sources for culture medium is preferable as these agricultural wastes are easily available, cheap and abundantly grown. The present work highlights the use of SCB, SPW and SBM to sustain the bacterial population for the Cr(VI) reduction process. Growth of A. haemolyticus in agricultural wastes was measured by optical density (00600) followed by viable cell counts. Reduction of Cr(VI) was determined using diphenylcarbazide method. For all Cr(VI) concentrations tested (10-100 mg/L), SCB-adapted A. haemolyticus showed the highest reduction ranging from 92-99% followed by SPW and SBM with 40-94% and 21-85% reduction resp.....

Kesan latihan Tabata terhadap maklum balas fisiologi dan komposisi tubuh dalam kalangan atlet wanita

Abstract

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan kesan latihan Tabata terhadap maklum balas fisiologi dan komposisi tubuh atlet wanita. Kajian ini melibatkan 36 atlet wanita yang berumur 16 tahun yang dibahagikan secara rawak kepada kumpulan kawalan (n =12), kumpulan Gaya Tabata (n = 12) dan kumpulan Tabata Ergometer (n =12). Program latihan dijalankan selama lapan minggu. Reka bentuk kajian ini adalah kuasi eksperimen. Alat kajian yang digunakan untuk mengukur parameter fisiologi daripada aspek pengambilan oksigen maksimum ialah melalui Ujian Yo-Yo, jumlah bendalir tubuh menggunakan Monitor Komposisi Tubuh Tanita BC541, kadar persepsi latihan menggunakan Skala Borg, tekanan darah dengan Omron M10-1T serta kadar nadi pemulihan menggunakan Polar® RS800G3™ manakala parameter komposisi tubuh adalah peratus lemak tubuh diukur menggunakan Monitor Komposisi Tubuh Tanita BC541. Digital practices at home and school: a case study approach

Abstract

The study illustrates children's digital practices in the Malaysian context. The 21 st century has witnessed an unprecedented expansion of and access to information for people who can use technology. Nowadays, information can be reached in the blink of an eye and is accessible at our fingertips. Since the 1990s, the internet revolution has helped people to search for information through their networked computers, and mobile gadgets have more recently made this even easier as people can carry information in their own pockets. However, this steady increase in internet usage and mobile device ownership, particularly among schoolchildren in Malaysia over the last few years, has been creating fear, anxiety and frustration. Factors affecting students academic performance in higher education: evidence from accountancy degree programme

Abstract

The increasing demands for accountants in the future have resulted in an increased number of students enrolling in the accounting programmes of Malaysian universities. This expansion, however, has caused some concern about whether these students are likely to succeed in their studies. This study, therefore, aims to examine the factors that drive the academic performance of accounting students at Malaysian universities. The factors included gender, ethnic groups, type of secondary school, sponsorship, and family income. The students’ academic performance was represented by their cumulative grade point average (CGPA) obtained at the end of their programs. The study used a quantitative research design using secondary data of 367 undergraduate accounting students graduated in 2016 from the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) for analysis. Accounting software application: understanding behavioural intention to use and the moderating role of gender

Abstract

Over the years, employers have raised concerns over their dissatisfaction with the skills and knowledge demonstrated by accounting graduates that enter the workforce. One of the IT skills that practitioners felt insufficient was the graduates’ capability to use accounting software applications. This study investigates the moderating effect of gender on the behavioural intention to use accounting software among university students. The technology acceptance model and theory of planned behaviour were used to develop a research model. Data from 438 students, analysed using partial least square structural equation modelling technique, suggested that perceived usefulness, attitude, and perceived behavioural control can influence students’ likelihood to use the accounting software. Abstract

Artikel ini membincangkan tentang Rumah Besar Penghulu Raja Bilah di Papan yang dibina pada tahun 1896 dan hubungannya dengan masyarakat Mandailing di Perak sehingga 1940. Objektif utama kajian ini ialah membuktikan bagaimana kewujudan Rumah Besar tersebut sebagai simbol kepada penyatuan dan kekuatan masyarakat Mandailing di Perak semenjak akhir kurun ke-19. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kualitatif menerusi pendekatan sejarah iaitu mendapatkan bahan, menilai kesahihan, menganalisis kandungan dan seterusnya mensintesis bahan menjadi sebuah karya sejarah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahawa Rumah Besar Penghulu Raja Bilah di Papan dibina selepas kehadiran masyarakat Mandailing dari Sumatera ke Ipoh pada tahun 1896 selepas Raja Bilah dilantik sebagai penghulu. Metaverse system adoption in education: A systematic literature review

Abstract

The evaluation of information systems (IS) models, which are employed to research the adoption or acceptance of metaverse systems, is thought to be a subject of major significance. Studying the adoption or acceptability of the metaverse system is not a recent study area, and many academics have taken on the task. We should be acquainted with the leading IS models used in this study trend to assess these models and give academics a comprehensive understanding of this study trend. The primary goal of this research, in contrast to previous reviews, is to systematically evaluate the metaverse research in education from the viewpoint of IS theories/models to offer a thorough pointer that might help the scholars to carry out additional research in metaverse acceptance. Exploring the adoption of the metaverse system among elementary students

Abstract

The metaverse is an envisioned realm offering immersive digital spaces, bolstering highly interactive environments within educational contexts. This digital dimension amplifies synchronous communication, uniting a vast number of users as they share their unique experiences. This research aims to scrutinize the perceptions of elementary students towards the metaverse system (MS). Our proposed model underwent validation through the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) technique. Data, sourced from 287 students of Dubai National School, revealed that the primary predictor of students' intent to engage with the MS is personal innovativeness. This is followed closely by perceived usefulness and then perceived ease of use.
