Supporting Asian immigrant English language learners: teachers beliefs and practices

Abstract

This phenomenological study explores the beliefs and practices of New Zealand early childhood teachers in supporting English acquisition for Asian immigrant English language learners (ELLs). The focus of the study is on the analysis of early childhood teachers' beliefs about how they can support English acquisition among Asian immigrant ELLs and how these beliefs influence the teachers' practices in early childhood education (EeE) settings. The theoretical framework of this research draws on a range of sociocultural perspectives, including (i) the sociocultural positions initially defined by Lev Vygostky (1978), (ii) the notion of guided participation articulated by Barbara Rogoff (2003), (iii) theories of second language acquisition discussed by Lantolf and Thorne (2000), and by Krashen (1982, 1985), and (iv) acculturation as addressed by Berry (2001). Aplikasi Model ADDIE dalam pembangunan Modul Literasi Awal (Modul Lit-A) untuk awal kanak-kanak

Abstract

Atikel ini menjelaskan aplikasi model ADDIE dalam pembangunan Modul Literasi Awal (Modul Lit-A) untuk awal kanak-kanak. Modul Lit-A dibangunkan untuk memberi pendedahan awal kepada kanak-kanak tentang kemahiran literasi awal seperti bahasa dan komunikasi; konsep cetakan dan cetakan persekitaran; fonemik dan fonetik; bacaan dan kefahaman naratif; dan tulisan awal. Kajian ini berbentuk penyelidikan campuran (kualitatif dan kuantitatif) yang diaplikasikan dalam reka bentuk pengajaran model ADDIE, iaitu (i) Analisis (Analysis); (ii) Reka Bentuk (Design); (iii) Pembangunan (Development); (iv) Pelaksanaan (Implementation); dan (v) Penilaian (Evaluation). Sampel kajian terdiri daripada 4 orang penilai luar, 3 orang pendidik, dan 30 orang kanak-kanak berumur 2+, 3+, dan 4+ tahun. Dapatan menunjukkan Modul Lit-A mempunyai kesahan kandungan yang tinggi, sesuai dilaksanakan untuk kanak-kanak, dan berkesan meningkatkan tahap kemahiran literasi awal kanak-kanak. Ionothermal synthesis of metal aluminophosphates

Abstract

The aim of this thesis was to synthesise CoAPO-34 and FeAPO-34 using ionothermal synthesis in the presence of organic amines. Using this method provides an alternative route to prepare such materials under low pressure instead of the higher pressure associated with hydrothermal or solvothermal synthesis. Both materials have chabazite (CHA) topology and they are known to act as catalysts. CoAPO-34 was ionothermally prepared using 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide (EMIMBr) in presence of 1, 6-hexadiamine (HDA). This study has found that when the synthesis was carried out without HDA, AIPO-11 was preferentially obtained instead of CoAPO-34. Broad line signals which appear between 2000 to 5000 ppm in both spin-echo 31 P NMR spectra of as-synthesised and calcined CoAPO-34 confirm that the C02+ ions have been successfully incorporated within the framework of the material. Emerging readers: Systematic exploration of effective English reading strategies for preschoolers

Annotation. This study reviews methods for improving preschoolers' phonological awareness and English reading abilities from 2013 to 2023 using the PRISMA protocol. Analysing 22 articles, it identifies 11 strategies for reading development and 5 for phonological awareness. Ionothermal synthesis and characterization of CoAPO-34 molecular sieve

Abstract

The cobalt-doped aluminophosphate molecular sieve, CoAPO-34 (with the chabazite-type topology) was prepared under ionothermal conditions using 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide (EMIMBr) ionic liquid in presence of 1,6-hexanediamine (HDA). The HDA is not incorporated in CoAPO-34, but is required to mediate the availability of Co2þ during the synthesis. The material was characterized using powder Xray diffraction (PXRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and solid-state NMR spectroscopy. Wideline 31P NMR spectroscopy showed broad signals (~5000e10000 ppm wide), confirming that paramagnetic cobalt ions are successfully incorporated within the framework of the materials...
