Categorizing polytechnic engineering learning activities based on students learning style

Abstract

Learning style is expressed as the way a learner approaches a process of learning and how he accrues the content of learning. This normally involves interactions between teachers, students and teaching materials. Knowing appropriate students’ learning style can improve students’ performance and increase student involvement in teaching and learning. A case study was conducted involving 30 first year students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering in an AutoCAD course at Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Polytechnic (POLIMAS), Kedah. An analysis was conducted on a set of questionnaire to obtain the mean value, standard deviation and percentages. Based on Honey and Mumford’s model, the findings revealed that the students’ learning style was inclined towards activist and pragmatist typology. This study provides information necessary to help in the process of deciding the suitable learning strategy to be applied to students at the polytechnic. In general, these findings help.....

Visi arif budiman dalam arus kedwibahasaan di Singapura

Abstract

Dasar dwibahasa menjadi tunjang dalam sistem pendidikan di Singapura. Keupayaan menggunakan bahasa Inggeris (EL) membolehkan Singapura membina perhubungan dengan dunia. Menguasai bahasa ibunda pula menghubungkan warga dengan warisan dan jati diri budaya mereka. Untuk menjayakan dasar ini, kajian deskriptif telah dilakukan bagi memperhalus pengajaran dan pembelajaran (PdP) Bahasa Melayu (BM), bermula di sekolah rendah terutama dalam konteks penggunaan BM di rumah yang berubah. Melalui tinjauan, 37 peratus murid darjah 1 yang mengambil BM pada tahun 2010 datang daripada keluarga yang berbahasa Inggeris berbanding dengan 13 peratus pada tahun 1991. Hal ini mempengaruhi sikap terhadap pembelajaran Bahasa Melayu. Herbaceous plant as Malay carvers motif inspiration

Abstract

This article discussed on type of plants of herb origin that has become motif inspiration for Malay carver. This research gave specialattention on motif of teratai, bakawali and bayam peraksi highlighted on decorations of gunungan (cosmic mountain) mihrab (niche) andmimbar (pulpit) in Tanah Melayu (Malaya). The subject of the research focused on gunungan mihrab of Masjid Jamek Batu Uban (1734) and Masjid Kampung Tuan (1830) as well as gunungan mimbar Masjid Kampung Laut (circa 1700), Masjid Tengkera (1728) and Masjid Kampung Bukit Bayas (1827/1828). Diversity of identified stylized motif has not only highlight the exquisite decoration but indirectly uncover the secret of herbaceous plant in Malay World which possessed certain benefits. Motif & design patterns of keringkam embroidery for the Sarawak Malays

Abstract

This research is conducted to study motifs of keringkam embroidery for the Sarawak Malays in Kuching. The objective of this study is to classify motifs and design patterns of the keringkam embroidery. Sample of study consists of textile collections belonging to Mrs. Salbiah binti Muhi and Miss Zainap binti Muhi, who are amongst the dominant figures in the keringkam embroidery industry in Kuching, Sarawak. Method of study involved Qualitative method through observations, interviews and document analysis to obtain research findings. In doing analysis, the motifs were re-created using Adobe Illustrator CS6 software for each of the motif in the sample of study. It is found that these keringkam embroideries were designed to floral patterns. Floral motifs commonly used for keringkam embroideries are motifs of bamboo shoots (pucuk rebung), roses (bunga mawar), trailing beans (kacang-kacang) and scattered flowers (bunga tabur). Persepsi tekanan akademik dan kesejahteraan diri di dalam kalangan pelajar universiti di Serdang, Selangor

Abstract

Kajian ini telah dijalankan untuk menentukan perkaitan antara persepsi tekanan akademik dengan kesejahteraan diri dalam kalangan pelajar universiti di Serdang, Selangor. Seramai 400 orang pelajar telah dipilih sebagai responden kajian dan data dikumpul menggunakan borang soal selidik yang diisi sendiri oleh responden. Skala Personal Wellbeing Index - Adult (PWI-A) oleh Cummins (2013) digunakan untuk mengukur tahap kesejahteraan diri pelajar universiti. Pesepsi tekanan akademik pula telah diukur dengan menggunakan Perception of Academic Stress Scale (PAS) oleh Bedewy dan Gabriel (2015) yang mempunyai empat sub-skala iaitu tekanan prestasi, persepsi bebanan kerja, persepsi diri akademik dan kekangan masa. Hasil kajian menunjukkan terdapat perkaitan yang signifikan antara persepsi diri akademik (r = 0.247**, p ≤ 0.05) dan kekangan masa (r = 0.179**, p ≤ 0.05) dengan kesejahteraan diri pelajar universiti. Phenomenology of material:An engagement with graphite media through drawing as poietic revealing

Abstract

The aim of this research is to phenomenologically engage with the graphite media through drawing thus allowing the media to be disclosed in its poietic potentiality. The study also aims to interpret the media as a meaning-making entity. Methodologically, the two main aspects in this research, The Drawing and The Writing, were combined through the phenomenology method of epoché and reduction introduced by Max van Manen. As such drawing becomes a way for the graphite media to be understood through the unfolding of drawing experience. Subsequently, reflection towards the artistic work and artworks through language becomes a meaning-making structure in expounding essential meanings. Abstract

This research is to find out how to improve the performance of outstanding Raudhatul Athfal (RA) teachers in Yogyakarta and how the steps are and how the key to the successful performance of outstanding RA teachers in Yogyakarta. This research is a qualitative research through a psychological approach that is carried out directly to the object under study, to obtain data relating to the performance aspects of the teacher's performance so that the improvement of his performance becomes an example for other teachers. Data collection method uses interview method, documentation, and observation. Kajian ini dijalankan bertujuan untuk mengukur tahap kepuasan pengguna sistem e- Claim, mengenalpasti faktor-faktor yang menghalang atau memotivasi perilaku penggunaan sistem e-Claim dan mengkaji kesan penggunaan sistem e-Claim terhadap kos pematuhan di UPSI. Kajian ini juga mengkaji hubungan antara kepuasan pengguna, perilaku penggunaan dan kos pematuhan terhadap implikasi amalan UPSI. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah tinjauan dengan menggunakan satu set borang soal selidik sebagai instrumen kajian yang mengandungi enam bahagian berdasarkan model faktor penentu yang telah ditetapkan dan diedarkan kepada responden. Populasi kajian adalah melibatkan kakitangan UPSI dalam Kumpulan A dan ke atas kerana kumpulan ini menggunakan sistem e-Claim termasuk kakitangan akademik dan bukan akademik.
