Abstract

Kajian ini adalah satu usaha yang dijalankan untuk mengetahui sejauh mana tahap penggunaan Pengurusan Sistem Maklumat Pendidikan (EMIS) di sekolah seluruh Negeri Perak Darul Ridzuan. Dalam penyelidikan ini, kejayaan penggunaan EMIS dilihat dari segi manfaat kepada individu dan organisasi. Reka bentuk penyelidikan ini adalah korelasi- deskriptif dan data kuantitatif dikumpul dengan menggunakan soal selidik. Penyelidikan ini menggunakan teknik pensampelan rawak strata untuk memilih 607 responden. Data kajian dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis deskriptif dan analisis regrasi berganda. Kajian ini mendapati empat daripada enam faktor iaitu Kepuasan Pengguna EMIS (β = .45), Penglibatan Pengguna EMIS (β = .25), Kekuatan Sistem EMIS (β= .24), Kefahaman Pengguna EMIS (β = .20) adalah faktor penyumbang yang signifikan kepada kejayaan penggunaan EMIS dan menghasilkan persamaan regresi (Y-hatK-EMIS = -0.19 + 0.24(Kekuatan Sistem (KS)) + 0.20(.....

A descriptive study on bank performance in Malaysia: domestic vs. foreign Islamic Banks

Abstract

Malaysia’s determination to become a hub for Islamic banking in Southeast Asia has led the Central Bank of Malaysia to grant licenses to foreign Islamic banks to operate in the country. Due to the intense competition among Islamic banks, the introduction of more innovative products is projected to tap investment opportunities not only for Malaysia but also for the rapidly growing Southeast Asian region. This paper assesses the performance of Malaysian Islamic banking industry since the introduction of the first Islamic bank two decades ago by using financial ratios. The ratios are divided into four categories; profitability, liquidity, risk and solvency, and commitment to economy and Muslim community. All 16 Islamic banks as listed by Bank Negara Malaysia were selected in the sample and to get the maximum number of observations, the period of 2005 to 2012 is selected. Employee ownership and financial performance of state-owned entities: A mediating role of employee loyalty

Abstract

The paper examines the mediation impact of employee loyalty in the relationship of employee ownership and financial performance of state-owned entities of Pakistan. Employee ownership is measured as percentage holding in state-owned entities, and financial performance is assessed trough profitability ratios; net profit margin and return on assets. Employee loyalty is determined through questionnaire circulated among the employees covered under the scheme. Meanwhile, secondary data is collected from already published sources. The study reveals that employee loyalty partially mediates the impact of employee ownership on the financial performance, which will support the policy makers to design corporate policies..

Kajian ini bertujuan membina instrumen penilaian murid tingkatan 4 bagi pembelajaran algebra dalam Matematik dan Matematik Tambahan. Topik-topik yang dikaji bagi subjek Matematik adalah Ungkapan dan Persamaan Kuadratik dan Garis Lurus. Manakala bagi subjek Matematik Tambahan, topik-topik yang dikaji adalah Fungsi, Persamaan Kuadratik, Fungsi Kuadratik, Persamaan Serentak dan Indeks dan Logaritma. Kaedah yang digunakan untuk membina instrumen dalam kajian ini melibatkan dua fasa, iaitu kajian literatur dan kajian rintis. Dapatan daripada kajian literatur telah mengenal pasti lima konstruk, iaitu minat, gaya pembelajaran, pengetahuan asas menengah rendah, penggunaan bahan bantu mengajar dalam pengajaran dan isi kandungan algebra. Kajian ini bertujuan meneroka secara mendalami komponen budaya, iaitu penerapan nilai matematik dalam pengajaran guru di bilik darjah. Fokus kajian adalah tentang dua nilai matematik iaitu nilai rasionalisme dan nilai objektisme. Secara khusus kajian ini adalah untuk menjawab soalan tentang bagaimana penerapan nilai rasionalisme dan nilai objektisme berlaku dalam pengajaran matematik di sekolah rendah. Kajian dijalankan secara kualitatif melibatkan dua orang peserta kajian. Pemilihan peserta adalah secara bertujuan daripada sebuah sekolah rendah dari sebuah pekan di Negeri Perak. Phytoremediation of palm oil mill final discharge wastewater using selected aquatic macrophytes

Abstract

This study assesses the treatment of palm oil mill (PaM) final discharge wastewater using a cost effective technology approach of phytoremediation. paM final discharge wastewater obtained from final distribution pond at KL Kepong Berhad Palm Oil Mill, Tanjong Malim was treated with three species of local macrophytes, Leersia oryoides, Pistia stratiotes and Ludwigia peploides. The phytoremediation performance was evaluated by monitoring the changes and removal efficiency (%) of BOD5, COD, N-NH3, TSS and pH level. The characteristics of nutrient uptake were determined by measuring the percentage of C, H and N elements, bioconcentration factor (BCF) and translocation factor (TF) of Ca, Mg, K, Na, Fe and Zn in leaf, stem and root organs of the macrophytes. The microbial population in the rhizosphere was identified using partial 16S rRNA molecular technique. An Assessment in Mathematics Education : Different Modes Of Assessing Learner Teachers

Abstract

There has been a vigorous debate for many years on how assessment can affect students‘ performances. Even if differences have an impact on pupils‘ academic progress this still leaves unanswered important questions about what mediates the effect. This study is conducted to inform the student‘s attainment in different modes of assessing and the relationship between genders in the three modes of assessment. The students‘ preference in assessment was also explored. The quantitative study is based on an analysis of 39 students who are doing their degree programme in collaboration with Canterbury Christ Church University. The methods used were questionnaires and interviews. The results showed the performance of students was average. Only oral presentation showed the girls‘ preferences more than the other modes. Recently, Professional Learning Community (PLC) has become an important discussion topic in the field of education. Thus, many educational institutions, especially schools, have sought to implement the practice of PLC with the hope of improving student learning. This hope is to be achieved through teaching and learning activities which are carried out collaboratively among school communities, especially teachers. In fact, they must respond to the activities undertaken to ensure there is improvement in student learning and achievement. Moreover, to ensure that schools practice PLC, the researchers have listed five main characteristics of PLC, namely: shared values and visions, collaborative culture, focus on outcomes to improve student learning, leadership support and shared personal practice. This article analyzes differences in the operation of school excellence practices in two types of the high achievement schools in Malaysia i.e. boarding schools and religious schools. In particular, this study aims to identify the differences between in the excellence school practices and school leadership in the two types of the high achievement schools. To achieve the research objectives, data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 180 boarding school teachers and 180 religious school teachers by applying the survey method. The questionnaire that was developed by Muhammad Faizal A. Ghani (2008) was used as this study’s instrument. Immediate hypersensitivity to marine snail (cerithidea obtusa) allergen among local patients with atopic diseases

Abstract

Snail allergy is rare, but it can lead to severe allergic reactions. Life-threatening reactions including anaphylactic shock have been often reported after snail consumption. Cerithidea obtusa is a commonly consumed sea snail in Malaysia and other Asian countries. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency of immediate hypersensitivity reactions to this species of snail by skin prick test (SPT). Snail proteins were extracted from the snail flesh. A total of 131 patients with atopic diseases were skin prick tested with the snail extract. Out of 131 subjects, 10 (8%) were sensitized to C. obtusa extract. Most of these subjects are allergic rhinitis (70%), allergic conjunctivitis (60%), asthma (20%) and food allergic (20%) patients. As a conclusion, this study showed that the immediate hypersensitivity to marine snail, C. obtusa exists among local atopic patients at a low frequency of 8%. It seems like a patient with C. obtusa sensitization is also probably to be sensitized .....
