Research Report
Feasibility studies on fauna biodiversity of Behrang forest reserve to establish Tuanku Zara Salim Edu-Forest
Noraine Salleh Hudin
This research aimed to study the feasibility of establishment of Tuanku Zara Salim Edu-Forest at Behrang Forest Reserve (BFR), Perak. To achieve this aim, we performed inventories on small mammal, bird, and insect species and studied their IUCN conservation status and protection under Wildlife Conservation Act 2010. From the survey, we found that there were three species of small mammal, 13 species of birds, 32 families with 29 genera of terrestrial insects, and 23 families with 36 genera of aquatic insects at the BFR. Almost all of the bird species were protected where three species were classified as nearly threatened and one as vulnerable. Based on these findings, BFR serves as an important area for wildlife conservation and has high ecological value for animal biodiversity studies. Therefore, the establishment of Tuanku Zara Salim Edu-Forest at BFR is highly recommended as it can provide wide opportunities for students, academicians and local communities to conduct educat.....

Research Report
Preliminary study of the potential medicinal plants at Behrang forest reserve for establishment of UPSI Edu-Forest Tuanku Zara Salim
Wan Mohd Nuzul Hakimi Salleh
The search for plants with medicinal use has led to some ethnobotanical studies that have documented traditional medicine of plant species, uses, part used, mode of administration and disease treated by local communities. In Malaysia, documentation on traditional knowledge on medicinal plants by local communities is still on-going. Traditional knowledge on medicinal plants is a legacy passed from one generation to another and some of them are being lost with the increasing rate of habitat destruction. Despite many studies have been carried out on medicinal plant resources in Malaysia, a larger number of medicinal plants and traditional uses are still waiting for proper documentation especially at Behrang Reserve Forest, Perak. Therefore, this study was urgently required because many of the plant species reported to have medicinal values are in danger of becoming extinct due to the loss of their natural habitats caused deforestation. Thus, to achieve these goals, the identific.....
