Abstract

The purpose of the study is to gauge the compentency level regarding the application of computer softwares among the secondary schools teachers of Visual Arts Education in the district of Kubang Pasu, Kedah. It was a case study using a qualitative approach. The respondents were selected using a purposive sampling method. A sample of seventeen respondents were involved in this study. The data was gethered through questionaire, interview an observation. These data were analyzed inductively and sistemetically. The results of the study had found that the respondents had achieved certain level of compentency including th application of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator softwares, ability to use the printer, scanners, projectors and digital cameras. They were also able to use computers in the teaching and learning process. However the study also revealed that the level of computer application among these respondents was low. Abstract

Serunai is a type of traditional musical instrument under the category of aerophones. It is very popular in Kelantan especially in the Wayang Kulit ( puppet play) and the Gendang Silat ( Malay Silat drum troupe). The serunai players in Kelantan now are mostly very old people and there are only a few of the wayang kulit troupes still performing in Kelantan. Information regarding the techniques of playing the serunai; it’s breathing system; the fingering methods and the oral recitals before the actual performance should be studied or obvious reasons. This is one of the reasons for this study.The person giving information in this study is a famous serunai player in Kelantan. He is Mr. Hamzah Bin Yusof from Gelang Emas, Pasir Mas. Kajian ini membicarakan tiga buah novel daripada tiga orang pengarang iaitu Mahabbah karya Shahon Ahmad, Ayat-Ayat Cinta karya Habiburrahman El-Shirazy dan Dunia Bukan Kita Punya karya Suratman Markasan. Kajian ini adalah bertujuan untuk melihat penerapan unsur-unsur Islam dan mutu serta keunggulan karya-karya tersebut. Bagi mencapai tujuan kajian, pengkaji telah menggunakan dua teori secara elektikal atau penggabungan iaitu teori taabudiyah sebagai teori induk dan teori teksdealisme sebagai teori sokongan. Untuk melihat unsur-unsur Islam yang terkandung di dalam teks kajian, pengkaji menggunakan teori taabudiyah manakala untuk melihat mutu dan keunggulan teks, pengkaji menggunakan teori teksdealisme. Abstract

When we discuss about influence in the learning process among Orang Asli students, who comes from different ethnic among themselves, in schools, we cannot ignore about the issue of development and their way of thinking based on this unique background among Orang Asli community, I felt a calling to do a research about social influence which focuses on factors that influences the process of acquiring attitude among Orang Asli students, when leraning Visual Art as a subject. Based on my observation in these 9 years, I found that in the livelihood of the Orang Asli community, Art has a high value in their community. They like entertainment, crafts, nature and 'laid back' situations which doesn't require mind improvement. Orang Asli students like doing physical works but not works which require mind application. This is due to social influence in their life. Therefore, before doing this research, a few aspects have to be identified like understanding the background of Orang Asli social-cult.....

Effects of production systems and ozone treatment on nitrate content and E. coli 0157H7 contaminations of Butterhead lettuce

Abstract

Butterhead lettuce, a salad crop pose to food safety risk issues because it is normally consume raw. The information regarding nitrate and Escherichia coli 0157:H7 contaminations status on Butterhead lettuce in Malaysia is still scanty. Not much work of this nature is carried out locally. Recently, an outbreak of E. coli was happened in Germany, which one of the most stringent countries in term of food safety on fresh produce. Hence, this study seemed inevitable to be carried out. The first experiment, a market study, to determine the level of nitrate and E. coli 0157:H7 contaminations of Butterhead lettuce. The result showed that nitrate levels exceeded the maximum limit but the bacteria contaminations were still under safe limit. The second experiment was to determine the effect of harvesting stage on the nitrate content, quality and nitrate reductase activity (NRA) of Butterhead lettuce, grown by hydroponic and organic systems. Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of durian tree sawdust (DTS), coconut coir (CC) and oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB) as amendment agents for the remediation of metal contaminated soil. Three main aspects namely characterisation, adsorption and pot experiment were studied. The characterisation study was carried out using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) Spectrometer and Fourier Transformed Infrared (FTIR) Spectrometer. The influence of two experimental parameters, namely solution pH and initial metal concentration on adsorption process was assessed in batch experiment. The adsorption behaviour of Cu(II), Pb(II) and Zn(II) onto DTS, CC and EFB was evaluated using the Langmuir and Freundlich equilibrium isotherm models. Two sets of pot experiment were carried out for 8 weeks at three rates of application, namely 0, 1 and 3% (w/w) to evaluate the ability of amendment agents to immobilise metals in contaminated soil. Influence of polyethylene glycol on the properties of TiO2 films by Squeegee method

Abstract

An extremely easy method is presented for producing TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) films as photoanode in dye-sensitized solar cell applications. This paper presents the study on the effect of Polyethylene glycol 20000 (PEG 20000) on the properties of TiO2 NPs films. The amount of PEG 20000 were varied between 0.1 and 0.5 g. Sonication and stirring of commercial TiO2 NPs Degussa P25 and PEG 20000 in ethanol results in highly homogeneous dispersions which are used to prepare TiO2 films. The use of optimum amount of PEG 20000 will increase the light absorption due to the increment of the surface area within the film. Language identity: variability in phonology in different races in Malaysia

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the variants of phonology sounds /θ/, /ð/, /ʃ/ and /tʃ/ among different races which are Malays, Chinese, Indians and other races such as Kayan, Melanau and Dusun. In Malaysia, the English language is the second official language and there are varieties on how people of different ethnicity pronounce certain words in their speech.This study was mainly based on the investigation on the pronunciation of words which had those sounds of 32 participants from Sultan Idris Education University. The first language of these participants varied as we have selected eight participants from each category of races. This study was conducted by adapting the variability model developed by William Labov (1970). The findings indicate that the majority of the participants had varieties in the pronunciation of /θ/ and /ð/ sounds. Abstract

Setoi atau Setol atau Satun merupakan wilayah negeri Kedah hingga ke Perjanjian Bangkok 1909. Pada mulanya ia ditadbirkan oleh para penghulu dan ketua-ketua kampung hingga Sultan Abdullah al-Mukkaram Syah (1778-1797) mengangkat anakanda baginda Tunku Bisnu sebagai Raja Muda menguasai Perlis dan Setoi. Wilayah Setoi menjadi wilayah rasmi dengan kuasa autonomi apabila Rama II (1809-1821) melantik Tunku Bisnu sebagai rajanya. Setelah penaklukan Siam ke atas Kedah 1821-1830, Setoi dijadikan wilayah tersendiri walaupun secara tidak rasmi masih dianggap sebagai wilayah Kedah. Rama III mengangkat Tunku Muhamad putera kepada Raja Bisnu sebagai Raja Setoi (1843). Oleh kerana ketidakcekapan keturunan Tunku Muhamad memerintah, Sultan Abdul Hamid, Kedah melantik seorang pegawai dari Kedah, Ku Din bin Ku Meh menjadi pentadbir Setoi. Pelantikan beliau kemudian memperlihatkan kemusnahan kekuasaan kerajaan Kedah ke atas Setoi. Ku Din kemudian dilantik oleh King Chulalongkon sebagai raja Setoi dan keka.....
