Networking your way into mental illness: SLR of social media usage among Malaysian Youth deadlift among young university students

Abstract

Youths are the most common group with social media utilisation as they are the biggest group of internet users. Their social media usage, however, poses a threat to them in the form of mental illness. Besides, there are still insufficient studies that systematically review existing literature on Malaysian youth groups concerning their social media usage and mental illness. Following that, this study aims to identify the forms of mental illness that are affecting Malaysian youths. It also highlights the specific areas and content of research that should be the focus of future studies. Therefore, this systematic literature review on the mental illness outcomes associated with social media usage among Malaysian youth is guided by ROSES (Reporting Standards for Systematic Evidence Syntheses). This study selected articles from reputable and widely recognised databases including Scopus and PubMed. The role of instagram in promoting mental health awareness and help-seeking attitudes among Malaysian University Students

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of Instagram (IG) usage for seeking mental health information and emotional support on help-seeking attitudes via mental health awareness among university students in Perak, Malaysia. Utilizing the Media Dependency Theory, a quantitative approach was adopted with data collected from 364 undergraduate students at Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) and MARA University of Technology (UiTM) through a 44-item questionnaire. Descriptive analysis and Structural Equation Modelling were conducted to analyse the data. Findings indicated moderate IG usage for seeking mental health information and emotional support, high mental health awareness, and positive help-seeking attitudes. Specifically, IG usage for mental health information indirectly influenced help-seeking attitudes through mental health awareness, while seeking emotional support had a direct effect but was not mediated by mental health awareness. Comics are a unique form of sequential art that combines text and visual graphics to tell a story. In academic circles, the purposeful use of visual elements to convey meaning or visual rhetoric has been gaining increasing attention. This research explores how comics' use of visual rhetoric affects readers' interpretations of and interactions with the medium. Additionally, the study seeks to explore how the discussion about models and concepts used affects readers' interactions with the medium and their meaning-making processes. To achieve this, the research employed qualitative methods, using descriptive and semi-systematic approaches to gather information on visual rhetoric related to three predetermined objectives. With the rapid development of smartphones in the market, “phubbing” which is an act of ignoring others because of a deepened focus on such electronic devices rather than establishing conversations has become more pertinent. The phenomenon of phubbing among youth is a result of their desire for up-to-date information or news particularly during their studies. Influencer marketing has blossomed into an increasingly prevalent method for products and brands to engage with followers, prompting interest in digital marketing and social media studies. Abstract

Asia has one of the highest incidences of online gaming, making it a favourite pastime among youth worldwide. However, research shows that excessive gaming can have detrimental effects on one's health, academic performance, and social development, and the economic relevance of the online gaming industry emphasizes the need to understand the attitudes and behaviours of youth towards online gaming. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the attitudes and habits of youth towards online gaming to develop strategies that promote healthy gaming behaviour. The study used a focus group discussion with three groups of youth, totalling 16 participants. The study found that the participants engaged in prolonged online gaming sessions, and individuals had different motivations for playing games, including relaxation, stress relief, escapism, and achievement. Investigating respect in learning as character education: A review of al-Zarnūjī’s Ta‘līm al-Muta‘allim

Respect has been shown to provide psychological, social, and academic advantages; nevertheless, most academics have not given it enough credit in terms of encouraging students’ character development. Al-Zarnūjī’s idea, a classical Muslim scholar, as a point of reference for his esteemed work on the concept of Ta‘līm al-Muta‘allim has been one of the references in learning and teaching guidelines among pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) in Indonesia. This study was conducted to investigate the role of academicians as mentors to student startup entrepreneurs in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Although the lecturers at Polytechnic and Community College (PolyCC) may not be real entrepreneurs themselves, they have effectively nurtured student entrepreneurs who have sustained their businesses to this day. 21st century learning is a dynamic and interconnected educational environment that leverages technology, fosters collaboration, and supports continuous and personalized learning. This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between learning outcomes, learning contents, deliver y strategies, learning activities and assessment forms in Structured Technology-Enhanced Collaborative (ST-EC) Learning Environment. To fulfil the research purpose, we developed a questionnaire with sufficient reliability as an instrument to evaluate teachers’ perspectives on five components in the ST-EC learning environment. The valid responses were collected from 240 primary school teachers. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) analysis was used to examine the relationship between the constructs in the hypothesised model.
