The influence of Bahasa Malaysia on student's writing while learning English as a second language in a national primary school

Students' writing in a second language encounters both social and cognitive challenges which are  related to second language acquisition. This qualitative case study is meant to identify how LI  (Bahasa Malaysia ) of the Malay students influence their L2 (English) writing. The dependent  variable is the students' number of errors they did in the writing tests and the independent  variable is the students' writing tests. 30 students of Year Five from a rural school were selected  as a cluster sample from an intact class. Observations, questionnaire, interviews, collection of  students' written exercises and three stages of writing ·activities inclusive of pretests and  posttests were used to collect data. The research question 'Does Bahasa Malaysia, as LI of the  Malay students, influenced their L2 (English Language) writing skill?' is answered through the  conduct of the writing tests. Use of audio-visual in listening comprehension

The purpose of this experimental and control study was to test for listening comprehension of  Malaysian nonnative speakers of English at SMK Ahmad Boestamam, Manjung, Perak via the  audio-visual. A random sample was drawn from the population of Form Six students from the school  selected. The samples are the candidate for MUET (Malaysia University English Test) exam which  consist of four language components; Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. The sample was  divided into two equal groups forming the experimental and the control groups. A t-test perform on  the mean scores obtained by the two groups on listening comprehension indicated a significant  difference at the .01 level. Result of the study suggested that audio-visual enhances achievement in listening comprehension of  the target language when native speakers are not readily available. Scaffolding as a tool in improving students content-wise oral performance

This project was concerned with the study of scaffolding as a tool for improving students' content-wise oral presentation. This study aimed to identify the effectiveness of the method scaffolding in assisting students' content-wise oral performance. Since it was an experimental study, there was a comparison between the experimental group and the control group in oral performance. Besides, there was also a comparison between the male and female samples' oral performance in both groups. The participants were 40 Form 6 students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sungkai, Sungkai. The experimental group consisted of 21 students with 6 males and 15 females, while the control group had 19 students with 4 males and 15 females. The samples went through a pre-test, a 2-week speaking session and a post-test. Kajian ini dijalankan bertujuan mengkaji eksplorasi terhadap motif-motif batik di Negeri Pahang Darul Makmur. Ianya sekaligus meneroka motif-motif fauna dan flora serta aspek-aspek dan unsur-unsur yang mempengaruhi eksplorasi terhadap motif batik lukis di Pahang. Natural Batik Village yang terletak di Balok telah dipilih sebagai lokasi kajian. Pengkaji sebagai instrumen utama telah menggunakan kaedah kajian kualitatif secara deskriptif bagi membuat analisis terhadap data mentah. Pengumpulan data bagi kajian ini adalah menggunakan kaedah pemerhatian, temubual, rakaman secara audio visual, rakaman video dan dokumentasi. Types of oral feedback: reason behind the choices

This descriptive study investigates the types of interactional feedback used in an English lesson in a normal Malaysian classroom. The focus is on how many different types of oral feedback, implicit and explicit, are provided and the reasons for choosing a particular type of feedback to use in a context in classroom teaching. The participant is an English language teacher in a secondary school in Batu Gajah. Thirty-two 15-year-old intermediate English proficiency students whom she teaches were part of the study. Transcripts of 5 videotaped classroom observations, 2 semi-structured interviews and remarks from field notes were used to analyse. The findings of the research show the teacher has used five types: repetition, elicitation, recast, reformulation, and explicit correction, during the duration of the five observations. The use of video in teaching writing

The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of using video in writing composition to MUET Semester 5 Diploma students with particular reference to the development of their writing skills. The subjects involved were 20 students from various technical courses in Politeknik Ungku Omar, namely Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Commerce. The method used to elicit data for analysis was through the students' written products, whereby they were required to write composition by using video and without using video. The analysis of the study was carried out using the percentage in Pretest and Posttest. However, the results showed that writing with video was more effective by using video than the writing composition without using video. The effectiveness of using authentic materials to teach vocabulary among lower secondary school students: a case study

This study investigated the effectiveness of using authentic materials to teach vocabulary. Quantitative data were collected and analyzed by using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The samples (N=60) comprised of two classes of Form Two students. The students in the experimental group were taught using authentic materials to learn vocabulary while the students in the control group were taught using the conventional method. The students were administered a pre-test to assess the initial vocabulary levels of the students and two weeks later a post-test to assess the vocabulary development. Data collected revealed that the students in the experimental group had higher achievement than the students in the control group. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant. Kesediaan pelajar dalam mendapatkan perkhidmatan bimbingan dan kaunseling di sekolah

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti tahap stigma murid serta tahap kesediaan murid terhadap perkhidmatan bimbingan dan kaunseling di sekolah. Kajian ini dijalankan secara tinjauan dan maklumat diperolehi melalui soal selidik yang melibatkan 125 orang murid tingkatan empat dan lima di Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Naning, Melaka. Soal selidik yang digunakan ialah alat ukuran Self-stigma of seeking help Scale (SSOSH) dan Attitudes Toward Seeking Professional Psychological Help (ATSPPH). Hasil analisis Korelasi Pearson menunjukkan hubungan yang positif antara stigma murid dengan kesediaan pelajaran dalam mendapatkan perkhidmatan bimbingan dan kaunseling. Implikasi kajian ini menunjukkan bahawa stigma pelajar perlu diperbaiki bagi meningkatkan lagi kesediaan mereka dalam mendapatkan perkhidmatan bimbingan dan kaunseling. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menilai kesan latihan kaunseling modul Mycounselorpreneur terhadap terhadap minat, pengetahuan, dan kemahiran keusahawanan. Kajian eksperimen ini menggunakan reka bentuk kajian kumpulan kawalan pra-uji pasca-uji dengan sampel 60 pelajar kaunseling dari Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris. Para pelajar dibahagikan kepada kumpulan rawatan dan kumpulan kawalan menerusi pensampelan strata untuk memasti setiap kumpulan mempunyai jumlah yang sama bagi lelaki dan perempuan. Kumpulan rawatan menerima sebelas sesi latihan keusahawanan menggunakan modul My Counselorpreneur, manakala kumpulan kawalan tidak dijalankan apa apa aktiviti. Ujian pra dan ujian pasca melalui soal selidik dijalankan untuk mengukur minat, pengetahuan dan kemahiran keusahawanan pelajar. Hubungan amalan penjagaan diri dengan stres dalam kalangan kaunselor pelatih

Kajian ini dijalankan bertujuan untuk mengkaji hubungan antara amalan penjagaan diri dengan stres dalam kalangan kaunselor pelatih di empat buah Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Awam (IPTA) di Malaysia. Pendekatan kuantitatif melalui kajian korelasi digunakan bagi mengukur hubungan amalan penjagaan diri dengan stres dalam kalangan kaunselor pelatih. Seramai 135 orang kaunselor pelatih di peringkat Ijazah Sarjana Muda yang telah atau sedang menjalani latihan Praktikum dan Internship Kaunseling telah dipilih sebagai responden kajian. Self-Care Practices Survey (SCPS) (2011) dan Inventori Stres Pelajar (ISP, 2020) digunakan sebagai instrumen kajian. Data dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan inferensi. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa tahap stres dalam kalangan kaunselor pelatih adalah sederhana. Antara amalan penjagaan diri, aspek rohani merupakan yang tertinggi diamalkan dengan min 4.16, manakala aspek fizikal adalah yang paling kurang diamalkan dengan min 3.56. Kajian turut mendap.....
