Relative risk estimation for dengue disease mapping in Malaysia based on Besag, York and Mollie model
Nor Azah Samat
In the study of disease mapping, relative risk estimation is the focus of analysis. Many methods have been introduced to estimate relative risk. In this paper, one of the common spatial models known as Besag, York and Mollié (BYM) model is discussed, and its application to dengue data for epidemiology weeks 1 to 52 of the year 2013 for 16 states in Malaysia is studied. Findings show that Selangor has the highest relative risk of dengue in comparison with other states. Data on the estimated relative risks are presented in the form of risk maps which can be used as a tool for the prevention and control of dengue..

Disease mapping for stomach cancer in Libya based on Besag-York-Mollie (BYM) Model
Alhdiri, Maryam Ahmed Salem
Globally, Cancer is the ever-increasing health problem and most common cause of medical deaths. In Libya, it is an important health concern, especially in the setting of an aging population and limited healthcare facilities. Therefore, the goal of this research is to map of the county’ cancer incidence rate using the Bayesian method and identify the high-risk regions (for the first time in a decade). In the field of disease mapping, very little has been done to address the issue of analyzing sparse cancer diseases in Libya. Standardized Morbidity Ratio or SMR is known as a traditional approach to measure the relative risk of the disease, which is the ratio of observed and expected number of accounts in a region that has the greatest uncertainty if the disease is rare or small geographical region. Therefore, to solve some of SMR’s problems, we used statistical smoothing or Bayesian models to estimate the relative risk for stomach cancer incidence in Libya in 2007 based on the BYM mod.....

The SIR-SI Model with age-structured human population for dengue disease mapping in Bandung, Indonesia.
Kristiani, Farah
Dengue is one of the most dangerous vector-borne infectious diseases in the world which are fatal in many cases due to inefficient treatment. Although the relative risk estimations of dengue transmission are available for Bandung, one of the most populous cities in Indonesia, dengue cases especially among young people have increased rapidly. However, the age factor has not yet been included in these estimations. Because specific treatment and prevention depend on age, this factor must be considered in any dengue transmission model. In this article, the authors classify dengue cases in Bandung into juveniles and adults. Each group is analyzed by SIR-SI model to estimate the relative risk of dengue transmission as an indirect transmission disease which takes into account the stochastic factor. This model also considers a spatial correlation which affects dengue distribution in a specific area for a particular age group. The results of the analysis show that some areas in Bandung have med.....

The association between external factors and the implementation of the green building principles among housing developers in Klang Valley
Nor Kalsum Mohd Isa
Major greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions come from residential buildings that account for approximately 65% of the global total, while commercial buildings account for the balance of 35%. Thus, green housing development implementation is important to achieve a sustainable building through an energy efficient use. Unfortunately, Malaysia green building implementation in housing development is still lacking. Malaysia Green Building Index (GBI) stated that only 28 out of 818 registered housing projects delivered in Klang Valley were certified with Certified Verification Assessment (CVA) in 2016. This paper aims to identify the association between external factors and the green building implementation among the housing developers in Klang Valley. A questionnaire survey was conducted and the study received 234 responses. The data have been analyzed using descriptive, cronbach’s alpha, principal component analysis (PCA) and correlation analysis. The result showed that there was significant rel.....

This study aims to examine wellness among undergraduate students in a public university in Malaysia. This study employed a survey method using cross-sectional design on 496 students in various semesters and from various faculties. The instrument used in this study is Wellness Five Factor Inventory for Adult (5FWel-A). This paper highlights descriptive findings based on a large study conducted under the university research grants scheme. Descriptive statistical analysis shows that “Essential Self Score” was the highest mean score among the students while “Physical Self score” was the lowest mean score among them. Based on the results, the findings of the study are discussed and implications of the study were put forward...

Exploring Preschool childrens user experience in using free-rotate Gestures on touchscreen design: the case of learning shapes
Fadhlina Mohd Razali
Free-rotate gestures enable users to rotate objects on the touchscreen interactively. Therefore, this study was carried out to explore the user experience of preschool children when using free rotate gestures. Five attributes of user experience, namely attractiveness, perspicuity, efficiency, dependability, and stimulation, were examined. The sample of this study consisted of 10 children, aged 5 and 6 years old were instructed to learn shapes by using a mobile application called “Mari Belajar Bentuk”. They were required to use their fingers to touch and rotate several shapes. The analysis showed that all attributes of such construct were deemed high. As conclusion, the overall finding strongly suggests that free rotate gestures on multi-touch screen design can enhance preschool children’s user experience. With high user experience, young children can experience engaging and meaningful learning.Consequently, future research should explore this gesture as it can make young children.....
