Isolation Of Stigmasterol from the leaves of Kopsia Singapurensis RIDL
Lee Yean Shan, Ahmad Kartini, Awang Khalijah, Tan Siow Ping, Nafiah Mohd Azlan,
The isolation and purification of the leaves of Kopsia singapurensisRidl. (Apocynaceae) revealed the presence of steroids, terpenes, and alkaloids. Stigmasterol 1 was isolated from the hexane crude extract of the leaves of this species. This phytochemical study involves extraction, separation by using various chromatographic methods and structural determination by spectroscopic technique such as IR, NMR including 1D-NMR (1H, 13C and DEPT), 2D-NMR (COSY, NOESY, HMQC/HSQC, and HMBC) and GCMS, involving also comparison with data from the literature..

Chemical Constituent from Alstonia Spathulata BL. (Apocynaceae)
Tee Chuan Thing, Ahmad Kartini, Awang Khalijah, Tan Siow Ping, Nafiah Mohd Azlan,
In Malaysia, Alstonia spathulataBl. is locally known as pulai basong which distribute in peat forest. The separations of the chemical components from hexane crude extract (bark) of Alstonia spathulata were carried out using different chromatographic techniques (column chromatography and thin layer chromatography). One compound were isolated and identified as lupeol acetate (1). This compound have never been reported and isolated from this species. The structures of this compound were elucidated based on the basis of detailed 1D-NMR (1H, 13C and DEPT) and 2DNMR (COSY, HSQC, HMBC) spectroscopic analysis. The data analysis was also compared with the literature...

Isolation Of Boldine from Alseodaphne Peduncularis (Wall. Ex. Ness) Meissn (Lauraceae)
Mohammad Siti Nor Fadzilah, Nafiah Mohd Azlan, Ahmad Kartini,
A phytochemical investigation of the bark of Alseodaphne peduncularis (Wall. Ex. Ness) Meissn (Lauraceae) has resulted in the isolation of a known aporphine alkaloid; boldine (1). The isolation and purification of the alkaloids were achieved using column chromatography (CC) and preparative thin layer chromatography (PTLC). The structural elucidation was performed by spectral methods mainly 1D and 2D NMR, IR, UV and MS, and in comparison with data from other literature...

Extraction and isolation of alkaloids from the leaves of Alseodaphne corneri Kosterm
Nafiah Mohd Azlan, Khoo Jennie,Hui Chen, Mohammad Siti Nor Fadzilah, Awang Khalijah, A. Hadi A. Hamid, Ahmad Kartini,
The isolation and purification of the leaves extract of Alseodaphne corneri Kosterm yielded four alkaloids; norisocorydine 1, isocorydine 2, 2-norobamegine 3 and obamegine 4. This phytochemical study involves extraction, separation by using various chromatographic methods and structural determination by spectroscopic technique such as ultraviolet spectroscopy (UV), infrared spectroscopy (IR), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) including 1D-NMR (1H, 13C and DEPT), 2D-NMR (COSY, NOESY, HMQC/HSQC, and HMBC) and mass spectrometry (MS). The IC50 value of antiplasmodial activity for isocorydine 2 and obamegine 4 are 0.50 μmolL-1 and 0.14 μmolL-1 respectively...

Hernagine type of Aporphine Alkaloids from Alseodaphne perakensis
Md Nazimuddin Mahfuzah, Husna Hasnan Muhammad Hafiz, Ahmad Kartini, Awang Khalijah, Nafiah Mohd Azlan,
A phytochemical study of the stem bark of Alseodaphne perakensis (Lauraceae) had been carried out. The dichloromethane crude extract from stem bark of Alseodaphne perakensis (Lauraceae) yielded two hernagine type of aporphine alkaloids namely oxohernagine and N-methylhernagine. The isolation and purification of these alkaloids were achieved using Column Chromatography (CC) and Preparative Thin Layer Chromatography (PTLC) techniques. The structural elucidations were performed by spectral methods notably Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy one-dimentional (1H, 13C and DEPT) and two-dimentional (COSY, HMQC/HSQC and HMBC)...

C23-Carbazole Alkaloids from the bark of Murraya koenigii (L.) Spreng
Tan Siow Ping, Nafiah Mohd Azlan, Ahmad Kartini,
Murraya koenigii (Rutaceae), locally known as curry leaf tree, is a medicinally important herb of Indian origin and now is widely distributed throughout southern Asia. The bark of Malayan Murraya koenigii was investigated for phytochemical content. The isolation of chemical constituents from its hexane extract was carried out by using various chromatographic techniques. Spectroscopic methods, including NMR, IR, UV, MS spectra data, were used for the structural characterization. Four C23-carbazole alkaloids were isolated..

New potential antiplasmodial drugs from Alseodaphne species: Alseodaphne pendulifolia and Alseodaphne peduncularis
Nafiah Mohd Azlan, Ahmad Kartini, Mukhtar Mat Ropi, A. Hadi A. Hamid,
Two species from Lauraceae family; Alseodaphne pendulifolia Gamb. (KL 5732) and Alseodaphne peduncularis (Wall. ex Nees) Meisn (KL 5165) were collected from I-Iutan Simpang Lenggor, Mersing, Johor and Kluang-Mersing, Johor, respectively. Phytochemical study on these species involves extraction, separation by using various chromatographic methods and structural elucidation by spectroscopic techniques such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), including I D-NMR (11-1, I3C and DEPT), 2D-NMR (COSY, HMQC/I-ISQC, and I-IMBC). Comparison with previous work were also used in elucidated the compounds structure. Five compounds were successfully isolated from Alseodaphne pendulifolia; norisocorydine N-oxide 22, corydine 23, N-mcthylhernaginc 24, oxohernagine 25 and hernagine 26 and three compounds from Alseodaphne peduncularis; boldine 27, norlirioferine 28, norboldine 29. Preliminary screening on alkaloids crude extract from these species exhibited antiplasmodial activity 0.8041lg/ml ICso and 2.1.....

In Malaysia, Alstonia spathulata Bl. is locally known as ‘Pulai Basong’ which distribute in peat forest. The separation of the chemical components from hexane and DCM crude extract of Alstonia spathulata was carried out using column chromatography (CC) and thin layer chromatography (TCL) techniques. A total of five known compound were isolated from the stem bark extracts and identified as: β-amyrin, β-amyrin acetate, lupeol acetate, stigmasterol and β-sitosterol. The elucidation structures of these compounds were established using 1D-NMR (1H, 13C and DEPT) and 2D-NMR (COSY, HSQC, HMBC) spectroscopic analysis, involving also comparison with data from the literature...
