Investigating the use of recast and elicitation in an online facebook group interaction : a case study

Abstract

This study investigated the use of recast and elicitation in an online Facebook group interaction. Qualitative data were collected and analyzed by using the Facebook group feature and open coding system. The samples in this case study comprised of 4 participants of Form 4 students. The students were involved in 2 sessions of recast and single elicitation session. The errors produced and participants’ responses were collected from the 3 sessions. The data collected revealed that the occurrence of errors was similar to oral conversation and another 5 types of responses can be added to Lyster and Ranta’s (1997) list of responses. Based on the general observation participants were also found to use ‘Electronic English’ which in this study was not ( treated as errors and their responses towards recast and elicitation were varied. Thus it is recommended that future study can find out why the types of responses occurred as well as to what extent the ‘Electronic English’ can be all.....

Abstract

Lumrah kehidupan manusia tidak dapat lari dari aktiviti yang berkaitan dengan unsur seni lakon. Pentas dunia acapkali disamakan sebagai pentas lakonan yang dipenuhi dengan pelbagai watak dan perwatakan dalam situasi yang berbeza-beza. Unsur-unsur seperti peniruan, pengulangan, penghayatan, aksi dan reaksi merupakan antara elemen yang terdapat dalam Teknik Seni Lakon Nazri. Pemilihan enam Teknik Seni Lakon Nazri adalah berteraskan kesesuaian pengaplikasiannya dalam konteks pengajaran. Enam teknik seni lakon yang dijadikan sebagai panduan adalah teknik muncul, teknik penyampaian dialog, teknik pengucapan improvisasi, teknik progres, teknik membina klimaks dan teknik masa. Penerapan teknik seni lakon ini bukan sahaja dapat dilihat menerusi pergaulan seharian malah lebih jelas dalam bidang kerjaya terutamanya bagi seorang guru. Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the level of planning and preparation for the contents of the Physical Education teacher in the implementation of Physical Education curriculum form four of the strand physical fitness. The instrument was a structured interview checklist form. The sample consisted of 50 teachers who teach physical education options in secondary schools in Gombak District. Findings showed that all items in muscular strength component have mean score at the highest level. Based on the overall mean score, the level of planning and preparation for the Physical Education teacher toward curriculum content is high (m = 4:33; sd = .79). Planning and preparation for the contents of this study include the components of cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance and muscular strength. Abstract

Laporan projek pembinaan “Modul Panduan Muzik Iringan Tari Ranup Lam Puan” ini disediakan untuk memenuhi keperluan kursus SPM 6006 dalam program Sarjana Pendidikan Muzik di Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI). Penghasilan produk ini adalah bertujuan untuk membantu dan menyediakan bahan pengajaran kepada guru muzik dan juga pelajar-pelajar di Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) dalam pembelajaran seni tradisional daerah tempatan. Dengan adanya buku panduan ini diharapkan guru muzik dan juga pelajar muzik tidak lagi mengalami masalah dalam pembelajaran muzik iringan tari Ranup Lam Puan dan mempersembahkan secara langsung (live). Selain itu produk ini akan dapat membantu dalam mengekalkan warisan budaya agar tidak hilang ditelan zaman. The identity of showmanship in Malay musical theaters

Abstract

The touch of magic in performances is one of the observable ‘wow-factor’ elements through musical theatres. The uniqueness of portraying imagination into reality is a definite difference compared to the other types of theatre performances. The emergence of various Malay musical theatres specifically around the 21st century has displayed variations in their artistic depictions of showmanship following the creator’s understanding and creativity. The showmanship in modern Malay musicals is overshadowed by Western characteristics which is Broadway. The struggle in glorifying Malay musical theatres surprisingly is inclined to follow the pattern shaped by the Westerns as the world’s musical theatres pioneer. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti kesan Program Latihan Acai Adidas (PLAA) berasaskan Model Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) berbanding Model Latihan Teknikal (MLT) terhadap prestasi permainan mini 4 lawan 4, kecergasan motor (KM) dan penulisan nota refleksi (PNR) pemain-pemain bola sepak Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG). Kajian ini menggunakan reka bentuk kuasi eksperimental dengan dua kumpulan iaitu 32 orang dalam kumpulan rawatan (PLAA) dan 32 orang kumpulan kawalan (MLT). Jumlah keseluruhan iaitu seramai 64 pemain berumur antara 18-23 tahun yang diagihkan secara rawak. Novel-drama Bila Tuhan Berbicara (BTB) karya Faisal Tehrani telah diterbitkan oleh Al-Ameen Serve Holdings pada tahun 2007. Novel ini sangat unik kerana menggabungkan dua genre iaitu novel dan drama yang dikenali sebagai novel-drama. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis aspek pemikiran yang terdapat dalam novel-drama ini. Kaedah analisis kandungan dan kajian kepustakaan digunakan untuk mencapai objektif kajian. Justeru, pembacaan rapi atau pembacaan secara mendalam digunakan untuk mengesan pemikiran dan seterusnya menganalisis pemikiran yang terdapat di dalam novel-drama BTB. Hasil kajian mendapati, Faisal Tehrani telah menonjolkan pemikiran yang berkaitan dengan pementasan drama atau teater Islam, pemikiran keagamaan, pemikiran tentang kepentingan ilmu pengetahuan, pemikiran tentang ilmu perubatan serta pemikiran yang berkaitan dengan politik. ESL teachers TPACK domains in an online digital tools and flipped classroom course

Abstract

This study explored the TPACK domains of English language teachers in an online course about digital tools and flipped classroom. The study aimed to analyse the TPACK domains that appeared in teachers’ interaction with the online learning artefacts. Seeking to address gaps in the research, this qualitative study utilised phenomenology methodology to explore in-depth the teachers’ TPACK development phenomenon. The instruments used for the purpose were online discussion post, online quiz, activity plan, digital learning products, reflective journals, lesson plans, video recorded lesson and semi-structured interview. This study selected 2 in-service English language teachers through purposive sampling. Creative drama as a teaching tool in the classroom

Abstract

Previous studies revealed that creative drama has its own advantage in terms of education. In this study, creative drama has been implemented to prove that it has its own role as a teaching tool in the classroom. A qualitative research design was used and data was collected from 10 children as samples in the District of Rawang, Selangor. This study used questionnaire and continuous record as instruments. The study was carried out for two weeks. In this study, the use of creative drama as a teaching tool was found to hold influence over comprehension and behaviour of children in the classroom. Theatre in education: the implementation of improvisation in dialogue pronunciation technique in teaching

Abstract

The improvisation in dialogue pronunciation will give significance based on the suitability of its application in teaching contexts. Copying, repetition, appreciation, action and reaction are the elements included in the techniques practised in acting. This study is fully dedicated to the implementation of dialogue pronunciation through improvisation technique which is often highlighted for the actors and actresses in acting. However, what goes unnoticed is the fact that the way a teacher delivers a lesson in a classroom has similarities in function and role as a stage performer. Voice is the main instrument which needs to be used during the whole lesson or performance. The problem statement in this study can be seen from the inability of the teacher to apply an effective dialogue projection technique in their lesson, causing a somber and gloomy classroom.
