On the basis of my own teaching experience and literature review, it was shown that many students were not able to master concepts of chemistry particularly in the topic of heat of combustion and they are less interested in this subject. Research findings also indicate that students rarely interact nor willing to assist friends during lesson. This research was conducted to determine the effectiveness of jigsaw cooperative teaching method on four dependent variables, namely (1) students’ understanding of concepts in chemistry particularly in the topic of heat of combustion; (2) interest in chemistry; (3) level of interaction during lesson; and (4) attitudes toward assisting friends during lesson. A total of 64 students from a school in Teluk Intan was used as research samples. This Self-Regulated Learning research was conducted to profile and analyze motivational aspects and learning strategies of science students in Malaysia. An improved instrument in Bahasa Melayu called The Motivation Strategies of Learning Questionnaire-Revised or ‘MSLQ-R’ was developed for this purpose. This instrument was adapted from Motivation Strategies of Learning Questionnaire ‘MSLQ’ developed by Pintrich et al., (1991). The Cronbach alpha values for the first pilot study were 0.817 for motivation and 0.922 for the learning strategies. In the second pilot study the aspect of motivation had a value of 0.894 the while learning strategies was 0.927. Both pilot studies revealed a high internal reliability of the instrument. The findings showed that the mean score of motivation (5.34) is higher than the mean score for the learning strategies (4.55). A multiple regresion test conducted on the hyphotesis showed that the two dimensions, namely motivation (β=0.21, T=4.15, p < 0.00.....

Kesan penggunaan buku bersiri Luqman al-Hakim terhadap perlakuan nilai akidah dalam kalangan kanak-kanak prasekolah

Kajian ini bertujuan mengenal pasti kesan penggunaan buku bersiri Luqman Al-Hakim melalui teknik penceritaan terhadap pembentukan nilai akidah dalam kalangan kanak-kanak prasekolah. Tiga aspek perlakuan yang difokuskan ialah nilai beriman, bersyukur dan pembalasan. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kuasi eksperimental melibatkan ujian, pemerhatian dan temu bual. Subjek kajian terdiri daripada 40 orang kanak-kanak prasekolah berumur enam tahun yang terdiri daripada dua buah kelas di sebuah tadika. Subjek kajian dibahagikan kepada dua kumpulan yang terdiri daripada satu kumpulan kawalan dan satu kumpulan rawatan. Kajian telah dijalankan selama enam minggu meliputi pemerhatian, ujian pra dan ujian pos serta proses penceritaan menggunakan buku bersiri Luqman Al-Hakim. Data kuantitatif telah dianalisis menggunakan ujian-t sampel tak bersandar untuk menilai sama ada terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan bagi perlakuan nilai akidah antara kumpulan rawatan dan kumpulan kawalan manakala data kualitati.....

Keberkesanan pembelajaran kolaboratif berasaskan portal pembelajaran dalam kalangan pelajar PPISMP, institut pendidikan guru

The purpose of this research was to develop learning portal for students of Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Sultan Mizan Besut Terengganu and to determine the portal’s effectiveness and quality based on the theory of constructivism. The portal was developed using open source software, “moodle” as a platform. All the teaching materials used in the portal were developed by the researcher. The study used quasi experimental design to determine the effectivenes of the portal. A sample of 83 respondents of the Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Sultan Mizan’s Semester 1 Ijazah Sarjana Muda Perguruan Preparatory Programme (PPISMP) July 2008 took part in the study. The t-test show that the measure of the post test result of the experimental group was higher than the control group (t (136)= 6.03, p=.00). This shows that the learning portal has an effect on the students’ learning. The study also shows that the learning portal is able to create a condusive learning environment and its usag.....
